Work colleague...

AIBU to think that this is just unacceptable...

I have a Work colleague who constantly whines and moans about absolutely everything.
I have recently reapplied for my flexible working request that has been in places for the past 3 years, never had any issues. This colleague took it as though I was getting special treatment (it's down to childcare), and went to great lengths to research about ways to get my request denied. Firstly I'm peeved that the managers were discussing it with her, and secondly she has the cheek to say that she was glad that they had challenged the request. The request isn't unreasonable and is just so that I can finish an hour early...
She no doubt has been gossiping about me (as she does with everyone) behind my back and has been very rude and horrible to me and bossy.
The manager has had a word with her and I believe it got heated. She has also been rude to our clients and doesn't really give a toss if she is abrupt and blunt.
I don't understand how people pity her (apparently she does everything).
AIBU here or is she out of line?
I don't understand how she hasn't at least had a disciplinary for the way she speaks to people sometimes!

Well you shouldn’t have to reapply for flexible working anyway, once it is granted it should be a permanent change.

That aside, your colleague is correct that preference should not be given to requires relating to childcare, the reason for the request shouldn’t come into the evaluation of the request.

Why are you reapplying for a flexible working pattern?
Leave your manager to deal with her and just focus on yourself.

A couple of separate issues here.

I agree that you shouldn't have to reapply but since you did will it affect her? I'm trying to think of why your boss told her about it, it may have been as part of the assessment.

If she is speaking to you rudely and gossiping it could (note could, not is) by seen as bullying. Same as trying to find ways to deliberately inconvenience you by researching ways to stop your flexible working (unless asked by her boss to do so). Put in a complaint.

Speaking rudely to customers will end up with the company losing business. Again, speak to management.

I want to be clear here, I am suggesting none of this as a revenge, tit for tat, response. But there are some fairly serious issues raised and I think management need to know what is happening.

Thank you for your replies.
I didn't think I had to but was told I had to resubmit it and they have asked for a meeting to negotiate a change. That's what's made me think something has been said (this colleague started after i had it requested).

@Binglebong
I would put in a complaint but I know that my name will be mentioned. And I really don't want that, I've seen people being laughed at who have complained.
And unfortunately can't leave as its a stable job and in current circumstances I can't afford to risk the stability Sad otherwise I'd walk out with no hesitation

Tis a pickle op, all the best

So you currently do flexible hours and have asked for a change to these to finish an hour earlier? Or are you just asking to continue your flexible hours?

In my work (public sector) on the request form there is a section about how many other colleagues have flexible working hours and will the change you’re requesting impact on anyone else. So that’s maybe why you’d manager is discussing it with her. You also have to state why you are requesting flexible hours.

You could of course quite separate to this raise a grievance formally about her behaviour x

You don't have to state why you're requesting flexible hours.
