Dd attending dance

newcastlewife · 01/10/2021 06:23

Dd has done dance classes for a few years now.

During lockdown I carried on paying, even though no classes, even though a lot of parents cancelled their direct debits. No thank you from dance teacher or anything.

Recently classes were cancelled because teacher had a "family event". It's now weeks since dd has done dance and she decided she no longer wants to do it. So dance starts back up and dd doesn't attend. I don't let teacher know as I said I would give dd time to think about it. She misses 3 classes. No word from teacher. I cancel my direct debit and suddenly the teacher is messaging me and emailing asking why I've cancelled my direct debit and why dd is leaving.

AIBU to think they had only contacted me because I cancelled my direct debit and not to see how dd is, as she missed 3 classes and no word from them. I don't really know how to respond to the message.

Yeah she missed the money
Just say dd doesn’t want to do dance anymore; thanks for all the classes

Thanks @Shoxfordian

Does seem strange that she was so quick to chase the Direct Debit cancellation but didn't think to get in touch after missed lessons with a quick "hope you and DD are ok, I didn't see her in class". For one missed lesson I'd assume she wasn't feeling well, after two missed lessons I'd worry something was wrong and check. I'd respond as pp said.

Do you beed to give notice or pay in lieu? Ours was half a term.

My experience of kid's dance teachers is that they're very grabby when it comes to money and totally disinterested when it comes to actually teaching children to dance

Pay in lieu but not notice required.

Yes, this is my experience and a few of the parents, when talking to them, feel the same. Always asking for money for something, new uniform every couple of terms, wanting us to buy sliders, head bands, extra lessons.

I'd email that DD is leaving as she doesn't feel like a very valued member o DC the dance class and has unfortunately lost her passion for it at the moment.
I'd also say that, in hindsight, you should have cancelled your Direct Debit sooner so that she ( the dance teacher) would have been alerted to the fact DD wasn't attending sooner.

  • of the dance class

Just read the message back and it doesn't even ask if DD is okay, the first part is "I've noticed you have cancelled your direct debit"
