To think some people on MN are far too sensitive?

I've posted a few threads lately, giving my opinion on certain topics - and people seem to get very offended by opinions.

I Started a thread about high heels and that I think they're a bit silly nowadays, and posters suggested ' if I don't like them don't wear them but stop knocking them?!! ' and 'is this a thread to put people down' etc etc

Why nowadays is it so bad to have an opinion?

AIBU?

The crux of it is some opinions are going to be passionate or extreme.

Some are from situations that illicit these responses and others are not. Like a relationship situation will illicit strong opinions and that's good. But some situations such as food or clothes makes less sense for people to have strong opinions and get upset by others.

Peaplant20 · 01/10/2021 14:51

The ones that get me are when people give their opinion (which is in contrast to the opinion of the OP) and then finish it off by saying ‘you seem very odd.’ 😂

LakieLady · 01/10/2021 14:56

I find it funny when people come on to a discussion forum, start a discussion, and get upset when people have different views from their own.

someonesomewhere7 · 01/10/2021 15:01

But right now you're basically complaining about people having opinions about your opinions. So you're sensitive to others' opinions too. Ironic :)

JelliedHeels · 01/10/2021 15:02

Um, aren't you being a bit sensitive about people being sensitive?

WinkHmm

Exactly. You put it much better than me!

@girlmom21

Are you really posting a thread because you're upset that people are easily upset?
Hilarious, what an own goal OP.

Surely that depends on the OP. There are some really odd opinions on here sometimes.
IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 01/10/2021 15:09

They are just giving their opinions. Just like you.
It could equally be asked why are you so sensitive?

SerenShine · 01/10/2021 15:14

@DeclineandFall

There's a way to give opinions that don't insult people. There's not a lot of that on MN at the minute. People using 'plain speaking' to be arseholes to other people. Why would you be surprised that people would take offence if you offend them? No idea if you're one of them OP.
This. I'm all for people having different opinions and if I'm posting on a discussion thread I am inviting those different opinions but...

Some people express their opinions so rudely and some people are extremely judgemental. That pisses me off. If you're not going to say anything constructive, kind or helpful, why not just scroll on by...

LaBellina · 01/10/2021 15:15

It’s not only on MN.
It seems that these days people see opinions or political views different from theirs as some kind of personal insult and can react very hostile if you say something they don’t agree with. Cancel culture is based on this phenomenon.

WinkHmm

No I'm being irritated and annoyed by it!! Not sensitive

@MoreAloneTime

I agree, people can't seem to cope with people that have different opinions. Its not even a snowflake thing, I see it with different age groups
Exactly this!!!

Looking at some of the threads you've started about things being 'tacky' or 'silly' and Doctors being arseholes etc OP maybe people are just reacting to that?

Maybe look at the reason why I called the doctor an arsehole and that's exactly my point - posting something is tacky is my opinion and people get sensitive

How Strange to pull up my threads

How Strange to pull up my threads

Surely you knew when you mentioned you’d posted threads people reacted badly on, posters would look them up.? You can’t be naive enough to think they wouldn’t?

Not strange , an AS takes seconds and I was curious as to how you have encountered all these sensitive posters and what you were posting about when you said I've posted a few threads lately, giving my opinion on certain topics. I wanted to know about the topics that's all.

OrangeJuiceAndNoodles · 01/10/2021 22:49

I think it's society generally at the moment. Everybody is weirdly sensitive and ready to fight.
