Health anxiety RE toddler.

DD21 months started nursery on the 5th September and came down with a cold on the 9th. She is STILL full of a runny nose and this awful dry irritating sounding cough. She's fine and happy in herself. Been abit off her food this week but other than that she's all good.

I suffer really badly with health anxiety and I can't help but worry she has pneumonia or something else serious. I really don't know what to do. I wish I'd never sent her to nursery. Everyone's saying it's the weather and just post nasal drip but I'm so anxious. She coughs constantly and it sounds so dry and tickly

Wake her for calpol I mean

No,dont wake her. She needs to rest up. Mild fevers help fight the sickness.

bellaweir · 01/10/2021 01:59

I do think she has some form of infection tbh. I'll see if she wakes up in the night. I'm tempted to take her to A&E tbh. She was fine before bed wtf is going on.

Mild fevers (100.4-102 degrees) are actually therapeutic and can help children fight off their infection better than those whose fever is constantly suppressed. Therefore, if your child is sleeping comfortably but feels feverish, don't wake them up to give fever reducing medicine!

Found this online.

Notimeforaname · 01/10/2021 02:01

You absolutely do not need to go to A&E. She is sleeping.

bellaweir · 01/10/2021 02:01

Ah thank you, I can't wait for morning I just want her seen to.

OP posts:
bellaweir · 01/10/2021 02:03

She doesn't feel as warm now so that's good

I agree with a poster above who said it would be better if you could find another way than seeing doctor each time for comfort, hopefully the waiting list you mentioned isn't too long 🤞 try do do some of you CBT/techniques you learned and get some rest.

bellaweir · 01/10/2021 02:08

I can't even remember them and I know sleep is out of the question rn 🤣

Notimeforaname · 01/10/2021 02:10

Just google CBT techniques . You won't be much use tomorrow on no sleep x

Notimeforaname · 01/10/2021 02:11

Are you at least settled down in bed or on sofa? Give yourself half a chance of relaxing and sleeping

bellaweir · 01/10/2021 02:11

I'm on the floor in DD's room lol

Notimeforaname · 01/10/2021 02:14

Ah ok. Well that won't help at all op,somthing has to give. Sorry I cant be of any more help but please do try to seek immediate help.

Notimeforaname · 01/10/2021 02:15

Can you count her respirations per minute? If they're outside the norm for her age group, get her seen Is her tummy going up and down as she breathes? If so get her seen. If there is a catch at her throat (in that case her tummy would be going up and down with each breath and you'd be aware she was struggling) take her straight in. If her breathing is normal abc nappies, temp are relatively normal I think you can delay until tomorrow but you're the mum and if you think there is a concern you're right to follow it up.

CinnabarRed · 01/10/2021 02:39

Do you have a partner you can talk to?

Tillysfad · 01/10/2021 02:41

I was actually overly laid back and someone explained to me that my little boys flushed face, chugging and glazed eyes were all reason to have his oxygen stats checked. The little cough was the symptom that no one took notice of.

bellaweir · 01/10/2021 02:53

Breathing rate is okay now, no grunting or chugging. Face okay too, no other signs of distress. DD is still asleep, can hear her with her dummy

I hope this makes everyone laugh as much as it did me. She's woke up briefly, happy as anything and gone "mummy hiya, bye bye now" 🤣 not at this time, no hiya💩🤣

Yeah!! Hope you can relax now. 👌

bellaweir · 01/10/2021 14:15

I can, they've said it's viral and to keep alternating calpol and ibuprofen

GP said DD was the 8th this week she's seen with this cold. My throat is also so sore today so I'm kinda thinking the cold isn't a continuation of the last cold, it's new.
