Has anyone managed to get a formal written diagnosis of dyspraxia/DCD for a teen?

We've had full assessments with EP and OT - both of whom have said dyspraxia but have informed me that they are not solely allowed to diagnose and that it needs to be a multi professional decision - which is what iv done..... i cannot find the last professional that will provide a formal written diagnosis

Any help or advise your be fab :o)

Not for a teen, but it was our paediatrician to had to diagnose it from the OT's report / recommendation. At the time the paed was also doing an ADHD diagnosis for us so we were seeing him anyway.
But I believe it has to be the Doctor that "officially" diagnoses it

Yes my youngest has dyspraxia, although he also has other diagnosis. His O/T sent me the report a month later and one for the school with things that would help him, this was years ago and to be honest could do with being updated as some of the things have changed.

My DS had a written diagnosis of dyspraxia and SPD 3 years ago when he had just turned 12. We gave up with CAMHS and used a private educational psychologist. We’ve only used the report with school and they accepted it immediately and have put in place all the recommendations and exam concessions.

Why do you need it?

We had it from the OT something like 'showing strong signs of dyspraxia' or similar and just went with that. It was sufficient for exam access arrangements and just stating it has been good enough for employers.

Just to add he was about 9 when diagnosed. This was a separate from his other appointments at camhs

Mine was 15, y11.

We have the report from the OT and the written plan for school to implement but like you a side note saying a formal diagnosis needs to be made. I'm sick of pursuing it now though with everything being delayed due to Covid. School accept that she has it and I haven't faced a scenario yet in which we need to show proof. I just showed school her test scores from the OT.

thanks for the info. school arent being very helpful. she has OCD and (as far as OT and EP concerned misophonia and DCD. CAMHS are useless and have fobbed us off more times than i care to remember

You need to get a diagnostic assessment from a qualified practitioner. Google Patoss and search for an assessor through there.

A community paediatrician diagnosed my ds when he was about 10. She had referred him for physio and OT assessments, and used their reports in conjunction with her own findings.
He has other issues that have gone undiagnosed, though!

Yes - well for an 11 year old. Was diagnosed with asd at the same time by someone (NHS) who specialised in this area, took half an hour to diagnose both, no multi disciplinary team required. Very much varies by area I think.
