Flu jab at GP or Pharmacy

justasking111 · 29/09/2021 13:35

Okay our GP is on the seafront no shelter as you queue for appointment so aibu to opt for a warm dry pharmacy to have my jab??

I'm okay but seeing the elderly queuing to talk into an intercom, we have a lot of elderly here seems inhumane. My dogs at the vets during height of covid were seen indoors

Having mine at boots tomorrow. I haven't received a text from the gp yet and didn't want to wait any longer than I have to.

Weird question.

Suck it up and queue outside!

Rubyupbeat · 29/09/2021 16:21

I had my flu jab a week ago at gps, well run as per usual. On a Saturday, 6 people in 6 rooms, giving jabs with another on the computer to take details.in and out in 5 minutes.

Just this minute had mine done at the pharmacy - quick and easy, no queue and no waiting several weeks/months for surgery to contact me. Takes the pressure off them as well.

My GP has cancelled all it’s flu clinics,no vaccine.I had mine done at Boots, can’t be arsed waiting for our useless GP.

Had mine at GP last week. I'm mid-40s, with asthma. They are doing under-65s at the moment, and said they didn't have jabs for over-65s yet.

Last year I couldn't get it at GP till mid-November so had it at pharmacy. It took a lot longer as obviously they have to check more details etc, but was able to choose my own appointment.

Would be interesting to know the truth of if it's good to support GPs by going to them, or by not doing! They're having a hard time at the moment (as are a lot of people/organisations to be fair).

Last year in the middle of the pandemic our GP practice opted to have two mass outdoor vaccination sessions - so no real time choice and potentially hundreds of people in a cold marquee. For some reason that would be far less dangerous than using the actual surgery which, having a front and back entrance, would be entirely suited to having a production line set up of people filing through, a bit like the mass vaccinations. I’m afraid I opted for the pharmacy.

I agree. A gp on here was definitely cross about posters saying gps got paid to do the jabs so they should support the gp. She said it was a burden on the surgery. And another gp or gp staff agreed with them. But on here people are saying their GPs are asking them to choose to go to the surgery to support them.
How can any of us know what to do for the best?

DH and I both over 50 so entitled to free flu jab. Went to book online with GP - no appointments before 24 November. Walked round the corner to village pharmacy on Monday and got it done there and then free.

I had mine on 18th September at Boots so that I could pop in on a Saturday when I was in town anyway. They have a covid vaccine area and do the flu jabs there as well. In and out in 5 mins and as I'm over 50 it was free.

I commute so prefer to have the jab as early as possible, particularly now the trains are so much busier and a lot of people aren't masked now.

My 79 year old mum was expected to take two buses to a GP run centre but just popped into her local pharmacy a couple of mins walk away and had it done there and then instead. She was thrilled and I think everyone should use their local pharmacy as much as possible as they provide an excellent service.

It’s must be waste of skills for a nurse or Gp go do flu jab. We must have more people qualified than ever do give an injection after covid.

Floofsquidge · 29/09/2021 17:01

My surgery have announced they are doing combined Covid booster & flu clinics. They have asked all patients eligible for free flu jab but not the Covid booster to book at a pharmacy.

justasking111 · 29/09/2021 17:35

According to Official data GP gets £10.06 per patient for flu jab. The renumeration for double covid jab was £12.68. Only the nurses jab in our practice on a Saturday take away the overtime and other costs it maybe not worth opening up

Our GP not doing booster's maybe refrigeration is a problem.
