AIBU to completely loathe the phrase “hump day”? A local Fb news page announces it every frickin week without fail, and now my most favourite cafe has said it two weeks running. Happy hump day, look at our delicious cakes. I will be boycotting them until they stop it.

AIBU or is it a bit naff?

It's in the same category as Holibobs Hmm

SirChenjins · 29/09/2021 12:57

It’s completely naff - but I don’t think it’s meant to be taken too seriously Grin

SpikeDearheart · 29/09/2021 13:20

Bleurgh, horrible, loathsome phrase.

LaBellina · 29/09/2021 13:21

I hate it.
An American Facebook friend announces it too, on a weekly basis, and I cringe every time I see it.

Brollywasntneededafterall · 29/09/2021 13:25

Wtf is hump day?
Shagging?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 29/09/2021 13:26

@Brollywasntneededafterall

Wtf is hump day? Shagging?
Its wednesday, when you get over the 'hump' of the week and head towards the weekend.
3scape · 29/09/2021 13:26

For those that get it once a week I guess Grin

😂😂😂😂 that was my first thought too initially but then I learned that wednesday is not shag day but the hump you get over to get to the good part of the week, closer to the weekend.
TheVanguardSix · 29/09/2021 13:28

I'm American. Granted I've lived in the UK longer than in my own native country. But is Hump Day like Shag Day? Is this a thing? Or is it like hump as in a hurdle you have to jump... a midweek hurdle?
Whatever! It sounds so dumb!

TheVanguardSix · 29/09/2021 13:29

Ah labellina you got there before me! And you actually knew the answer. I am impressed! Grin Happy Hump Day to you.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/09/2021 13:35

Oh I’m sad now - I thought you were wishing us a happy hump day!

LaBellina · 29/09/2021 13:36

Happy hump day to you too dear @TheVanguardSix

Agree.
Brigittebidet · 29/09/2021 13:38

Meh - I quite like it - it reminds me of Chris Evans, who I quite like.

Don’t worry, it’s below treason and genocide on my things I hate list Smile

It belongs in the sea, along with the word ‘naff’ Wink

Brefugee · 29/09/2021 14:07

In Germany it's "Bergfest" which is what you celebrate when you get to the top of a mountain or something. All downhill to the weekend from here.

I don't mind "hump day" because i think of hump-backed bridges. It's not a word that really features in my vocabulary for anything else

SecretKeeper1 · 29/09/2021 14:09

I couldn’t think of a better word for naff, than naff. Is there a less naff way of saying naff?
OP posts:
SecretKeeper1 · 29/09/2021 14:11

@Brefugee I much prefer Bergfest. The Germans have a proper word for everything!

Alicesays · 29/09/2021 14:13

It's bad for me because when I hear humping I think shagging Blush

Lavender24 · 29/09/2021 14:15

It's awful.

Brefugee · 29/09/2021 14:40

fresh from a twitter thread that said exactly the same thing (and as i always say: if there isn't a word, it isn't a thing)

[twitter thread is talking about the German word for what's going on in the UK with fuel: Hamstertanken - where "tanken" = to fill up]
