AIBU To Take 11 year old son to James Bond film

My DS, age 11, has just started in year 7 - he is a James Bond fan so I was wondering would it be unreasonable to take him to the cinema in half term to see the new James Bond (rated 12)?

I am inclined to do so - he is relatively mature and I think he would be fine with the content, plus all his friends seem to be going

Does he look 12?

HarrietsChariot · 29/09/2021 09:49

It's a 12A, so it doesn't matter whether he looks 12 or not, provided he's with an adult.

Take him, he's at exactly the right age to enjoy James Bond films.

Quick google it’s a 12A so younger kids are fine to watch as long as adult with him. Only need to be 12 if alone.
If he’s only with his mates our vue seems to ID teens for 15s so risk he might not get in.

@Tempusfudgeit

Does he look 12?
Not sure - he certainly looks older than some of the boys in his year but as a summer baby I always thinbk that he looks obviously younger than some

Eeek just seen that its 2 hours 43 minutes long so needing toilet might be a bigger issue!

If he is with you it doesn't matter if he looks 4.

12A means advisory that content may not be suitable for u12s but as a parent it's your call.

In this case it's find to take an 11yo to see a 12A James Bond movie.

Fine not find obvs

FlorenceWintle · 29/09/2021 09:55

Absolutely fine I’d say. Though the running time has put us off taking ours!

SuperstarDog · 29/09/2021 09:56

It’s a 12A as a pp said, so no issue at all.

EvilRingahBitch · 29/09/2021 09:58

The theatre will be full of 6-9 year olds and indeed the odd toddler whose parents CBA to get a babysitter. I wouldn't hesitate to take an 11 year old unless they were unusually sensitive.

I’m having this conversation about DS who is 10. He has seen all the Marvel 12A films. And Harry Potter. But I am quite wary about this one. The last Bond was a 12A and I went to see it with DS’s sisters who were then aged 12 and 15. There was an awful scene where a man had his eyes gouged out. A prolonged strangulation. Torture. And lots of close up violence far above a Marvel type film. I was quite surprised at the rating.

We have decided that I will go with our teenage daughters this week and my DH will go with his brother in half term and take DS if the girls and I thought it would be ok for him (or DH will just go with his brother - DH won’t miss out).

Alternatively wait for a few reviews. Though we don’t want spoilers!

(I would judge any parents taking bored toddlers though)

Ducksurprise · 29/09/2021 10:02

No but only because it is so long. They need an interval!

GloomAndDoom · 29/09/2021 10:05

If its a 12A then it's completely up to you. If you think they can sit through it and not get bored and piss everyone off then go for it.

Crazycrazylady · 29/09/2021 10:20

I'm taking my three boys on Saturday.. 8,9 and 11. They can't wait but tend to close their eyes at any kissing bits !
