To ask what stuff you have to have out in the house that you'd rather not?

Just some light relief from petrol angst.
Mine would be OHs running trophies which line the front of several bookshelves. I'm proud of him for being so fit and getting them, but they're all so fugly: tacky cups or blocks of wood ) resin with plastic 'medallions' glued to them. Why don't they offer something useful like a t-shirt?

Similar, DH has a load of revolting tankards from various life events and golf competitions. They are never ever used and I’d happily bin the lot but he has a weird attachment to them.

He also correctly points out that about 80% of our house has been filled by me. Ok, 90% Grin

iloverainandrainbows · 28/09/2021 09:59

LPs, CDs, tapes, mini discs, music biographies, guitars - all my DH's shit.

Toys and tiny bits of lego.

Coats, hoodies, dumped shoes waiting to be put away/taken upstairs.

Aarrrggghhhhh!

To be fair, my family would probably say candles, magazines, random lipsticks etc.

cushioncovers · 28/09/2021 10:01

Everyone else's shit. Mine is ok thoughWink

violetbunny · 28/09/2021 10:03

Cat stuff. Litter trays, food and water bowls, scratching post, cat tower... Plus a fugly throw which has seen better days, but which Girlcat loves to sleep in,

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/09/2021 10:04

Regimental Presentation Pieces and Photographs. Although I've managed to hide most of them though due to space issues (and no longer living within the Military Community so no one is going to unexpectedly drop round).

I make an exception for George the Kiwi though. (Bird not fruit!)

Exactly. Because I have perfect taste, naturally 😁

Thousands of Northern Soul records. (DHs)

robinsinthespring · 28/09/2021 10:09

3 large models of sailing boats which get incredibly dusty, I could cheerful chop them up.

StillWalking · 28/09/2021 10:12

His @£$£% HiFi unit. It's huge, with the £$%& speakers it takes up a whole wall of our (fairly large) living room and therefore have no room for a TV in there. It cost a flippin' fortune as well ... but I'd happily bin it given the chance. GAHHH!!!!

Tellmesomethinggirl · 28/09/2021 10:12

My mil's antique secretaire cupboard. It's heavy as fuck and very ugly.

GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 28/09/2021 10:13

Nothing in terms of possessions really. Me and DH have the same tastes (we both play guitar/bass, like the same music and books etc) so all the 'stuff' knocking about is ours jointly, and I love having musical instruments and related ephemera around.

But I do hate radiators. They're so ugly. And those covers people put on them have the same vibes as toilet roll covers - the thing is still there, you're fooling nobody.

Functional kitchen stuff gets on my tits, too. Make it as retro/glass/light up/musical as you like, there's no such thing as an attractive toaster or kettle.

withiceplease · 28/09/2021 10:14

WiFi kit - vile
Toaster - I keep it in a drawer that obviously only I can use
Pens in pots
Paperwork about special offers - these are not ornaments
Empty vases - cupboard please
Tv remotes belong in the box I bought to hide them

Gncq · 28/09/2021 10:16

Our house it's all bloody DH's books. We had a right barny when we moved house (thankfully a bigger one, more wall space for bloody bookshelves).

I kept saying things like "do you really need this whole series of books on how to operate Microsoft 7" or whatever, some really really crap books... And he just dug his heels in. He's obsessed.

Of course a lot are really good books like full catalogues of top artists that sort of thing but - he's read them all, he never picks them up to read again or anything, they just sit there on bookshelves forever taking up wall space and it's a right pain because there's no shelf space for anything useful!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/09/2021 10:22

@Gncq I was prepared to be Shock at books... but yes out of date instruction manuals are unreasonable.

ThePotatoCroquette · 28/09/2021 10:25

Lego models, nano blocks models, half finished puzzles, craft projects made from recycling in various states of completion, usually some kind of game with toys like shop/garage/hairdresser. I just hoover round it and let them move on to something else

CantChatNow · 28/09/2021 10:26

Wellies/walking boots. Keep other shoes in boxes but muddy walking boots are always damp/grubby so have to stay on a mat by the door. Would really like a porch built so I don't have to look at them every time I go in the hall!

ThePotatoCroquette · 28/09/2021 10:26

My 3 years out of date magazines and creative creations are allowed though ofc

MorningRant · 28/09/2021 10:26

Tbf 95% of the house is my junk. But this is absolutely not!

Stormwhale · 28/09/2021 10:28

The dogs ashes. I know it makes me an awful person, but there is no way to make a box of ashes look nice on a sideboard.

reprehensibleme · 28/09/2021 10:32

Wires. I hate the guddle of wires under computer desks, behind the TV (tv/sky box/soundbar/dvd/games console) phone chargers, remote speakers, routers yadayadayada. Hate them. And the remotes.

Dh's football trophies - as toconclude says, all tacky, some are huge. Why on earth they can't just be awarded a small medal/plaque which could go in a frame (all in the same frame).

SylvanasWindrunner · 28/09/2021 10:33

DH's rowing machine which is used about once every six months, but he's always just 'about to get back into it' every time I suggest we get rid of it Hmm

SylvanasWindrunner · 28/09/2021 10:35

Get a nice urn for it. We got one for the cat that's just a little wooden curled-up cat figurine and it just looks like an ornament.
Foxyloxy1plus1 · 28/09/2021 10:36

‘Toy’ cars. Replica cars he bought years ago, fuck knows why.
He’s trying to sell them. No one is buying. I’m not surprised.

I think they may find their way, one by one, into the bin.

minipie · 28/09/2021 10:41

Anything that lives out. I’m a frustrated minimalist living with two messy DC who love craft 🤯

I have huge amounts of storage after a big renovation but would still love to be able to put away:

  • kids toothbrushes which live in our downstairs loo for convenience in the mornings
  • kids craft stuff and half done artwork, no matter how often I tidy it it creeps all over
  • DH running kit which he drapes all over “to dry out” why? If it’s that sweaty it needs to go in the wash!!
  • Paper, there is always paperwork of some sort on the kitchen surface, to be fair it’s mostly mine Grin
Peoniesandpeaches · 28/09/2021 10:43

Laundry stuff. We’ve nowhere to dry clothes so it has to stay but it depresses the hell out of me. Also the pile of stuff for selling - I’m at the point I just want rid of it but my partner insists they’ll get good money for it when it is eventually listed.
