Had mine Sunday very early so went and had a full English breakfast, a lovely walk by the sea, a scenic bus ride and then a strawberry ice cream sundae I was just thinking life doesn't get any better than this and WHAM my legs went from under me, by the time I got home I was very ill, hot and cold shivers, headache, total fatigue the lot I was in bed by 7pm, still feel ill today and my bloody arm STILL hurts, DH had his at the same time and was fine . The thing is I have never actually had flu not until they inoculated me against it, luckily it didn't include the covid booster I have got that to look forward to

Had flu jab last year with no ill effects

SpindleWorld · 28/09/2021 01:38

Stop eating so much crap.

BetsyJameson · 28/09/2021 01:42

The flu vaccine can’t give you flu as it isn’t a live vaccine.

SpittinKitten · 28/09/2021 01:46

Personally I would (and have) happily take a day or two of feeling a bit rough post vaccine, if it means reducing the chances of catching something that could potentially kill me

Each to their own though!

Saoirse82 · 28/09/2021 01:47

I felt shit after mine 2 years ago (first time having it), so much so that I didn't have it last year but I wasn't going out much really with lockdowns etc. However I'm pregnant this year and dreading having it but I will because I know its important. I was ill after the first AZ vaccine too so maybe some people are more susceptible to side effects with vaccines, I heard it was a sign of a good immune response though so every cloud eh?

user1473878824 · 28/09/2021 01:49

The flu vaccine doesn’t give you flu. Can make you feel a bit shit. If the vaccine knocks you out like that imagine what real flu would do and think yourself lucky for having the option. Same goes for Covid.

@SpindleWorld

Stop eating so much crap.
This is ridiculous.
LobsterNapkin · 28/09/2021 01:53

I've never felt that way about the flue jab, but I sure did about my first covid - 48 hours of fever and shaking. Assuming I don't grow a third arm or something, it likely was worth it, but I didn't feel that way at the time!

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/09/2021 01:57

This.

Oldsu · 28/09/2021 02:18

Well if it isn't flu its doing a good imitation of it

Don't think my feeling like shite has anything to do with my food intake actually

I always feel ill after flu vaccine. I've always been told that's impossible because it doesn't contain live flu. True but it can still trigger an immune response that makes you feel rotten. Hope you're on the mend soon. Probably better than catching flu.

Gothichouse40 · 28/09/2021 02:44

I had an awful reaction to a flu vaccination and didn't have it again for five years. I was ill for weeks after it. I think it does trigger a reaction and it's worse if you have autoimmune issues.

YukoandHiro · 28/09/2021 02:48

I get the flu jab every year because I'm CEV. About one year in five I get a really bad reaction to it. Now I just dose up with ibuprofen straight away afterwards.

TrickorTreacle · 28/09/2021 02:50

The OP has a mixture of YANBU and AYBU.

YANBU for choosing a full English. You can't beat a full English, so you are never BU there!

However, you are BU for encouraging vaccine hesitancy. Let the M-netters get vaccinated. If they catch a de-activated flu or covid virus, it won't be as bad as catching the real thing.

Pixxie7 · 28/09/2021 03:20

As others have said you can’t get flu from a vaccine and certainly not that quickly. Is it possible you were cooking something prior to having it?

Nat6999 · 28/09/2021 03:23

I can't have the flu jab any more, whenever I have had it I have ended up with pneumonia about 3-4 weeks later, if I don't have one I don't even get colds.

Speakuptomakeyourselfheard · 28/09/2021 03:35

Be grateful you had the vaccine! I got flu badly a few years ago, it turned into pneumonia, with septicaemia and came very close to killing me. So while your immune system might (only might) have triggered this reaction, think yourself lucky that you had the opportunity to be protected from something which kills many more people than most of us are aware.

Offmyfence · 28/09/2021 03:45

And this is exactly why we get vaccinated!
isthismylifenow · 28/09/2021 04:56

I'm not in UK but when we had ours earlier this year going into winter, there was an extra strain added into the jab this year.

Perhaps this is why it's affected you more.

No nothing apart from the jab, still feel like shite and there is a painful lump where the needle went in as well

DifficultBloodyWoman · 28/09/2021 05:04

I’ve had the flu. I prefer the vaccine.

HarrietOh · 28/09/2021 05:30

I’ve been paying for flu jab for a few years since having flu for the first time. I’ve always been fine but this year had side effects of chills and aches. Honestly though, it’s much preferable to getting the flu, which is pretty horrific.

JuicyPie · 28/09/2021 05:43

Having looked after patients in ICU with flu then you should be grateful you don't have flu and the complications that can develop from it.

Goneroundthetwist · 28/09/2021 05:52

Maybe you have Covid…….
