I’m on the mini pill for heavy periods. I don’t need it for contraception. The Gp won’t put me on a combined pill (which I was on in my 20s and 30s) as I might have migraine auras.

I feel like I have the most horrific PMS in the world. I was stressed, feeling low and anxious already, but it’s just amplified it and now I feel I can’t cope.

The GP actually wants me on the coil, and I’ve always resisted as I’m concerned about the side effects. So the idea was that if I tolerate the mini pill, then I’d agree to have the coil. I’m feeling very glad I didn’t give in to pressure!

I had a Mirena coil and didn't like it. I actually lied to get it taken out, (said we were TTC)! But I'd had it for over six months anyway and still hated it, so I think I gave it a reasonable go. I had the Mirena crash when it was taken out and went very bloody weird MH-wise. Not like me at all. I became really depressed about world issues I have no real control over, crying all the time etc. DH was telling me to see a doctor about it, but then it stopped. Never again!

I have friends who say their coil is their best friend though. Never have side effects and rarely have any bleeding at all. When they do it's just spotting etc. So, on balance, I'm glad I tried it, as if it had worked out well, it could have been amazing.

I've been on it for three months for heavy periods bad PMTS particulary horrendous bloating.

Overall it's been an improvement as the PMS is much reduced and I've only had two periods. However, I still get some symptoms and my periods now seem to go on for longer (the first time it went on for three weeks!). But despite the drawbacks it still feels much better, although it does seem to take a bit of time to get used to.

The other thing the doc suggested I could do if the mini pill didn't resolve the issue was Prostap, which produces a temporary menopause, and HRT to balance that out. I'm not keen on prostap though, it gave me headaches and rage when I was on it for IVF.

Tried the pilll. Had morning sickness vom every day at 5am, plus constant spotting.

Wanted to give it a fair chance so stayed on it for 3 months. Wish I hadn’t.

Also tried coil and hated it, uncomfortable and I strongly suspect it contributed to infertility problems later.

I’m a big fan of condoms! So simple! Doesn’t mess up the woman’s body!
@happylittlevegemites I’ve got severe endometriosis and my symptoms had really ramped up, I’m on the waiting list for a hysterectomy, and the mini pill was an interim “probs won’t work” thing. If I can manage through menopause on it, I might get away without the hysterectomy, my symptoms are pretty much non existent now. I just hope they stay like that! Stick with it a bit longer, you might be ok!
Fingers crossed! Endometriosis is a horrible thing.
