AIBU to think the 90s weren't all that?

Don't get me wrong, I had the best time back then but all of this retrospective bollocks seems a bit much. They even had a feature about music from 1991 on World At One R4 today. It all seems to be because the programmers and controllers are around 50 and just want to go "oh yeah I was at this cool gig when I was 20". I remember them doing the same thing with the 60s when I was young in the 80s and although I kind of enjoyed it it meant as little to me then as 90s means to people now ie nice and nostalgic but get over it granddad.

Also am watching TOTP from August 1991 and Bryan Adams was at number one for fucking forever so it was hardly all cutting edge. Plus there is a fair bit of footage of midge ure in weird boots and that mark guy from UB40 slapping away at his bass like dance hadn't happened yet. Ie there was a lot of shit around.

I was 15 in 1990 and 25 in 2000, they were always going to be formative years for me! 1993 onwards was better, the early 90s were defined by a ton of financial worries due to the recession and I didn't really enjoy doing my GCSEs. It was a fantastic time but anytime being aged 17 - 25 1960s onwards would be pretty brilliant, I'd have thought.

It depends, I guess if you were a relatively care free teenager with access to the 'cool' stuff (ie the fashion, the music etc that bonded you with other cool teens) then you probably will look back at them with rose tinted glasses.
I wasn't even close to cool, but I came into my own about 2002 ish ...now that's the decade I remember being really damn good !

Looking back I think the whole "BritPop" thing was pretty naff.

However all the grunge stuff still sounds good today.

Blasphemy, the '90s were amazing! Granted it was the decade of my childhood so guaranteed to have rose-tinted specs about it.

As you age you start looking backwards.
The 1980s was my era because I was young then, the actual decade had many low points , but from my own perspective it was fun and when I hear a tune from that decade it takes me back , but only to the good times! I forget all the bad things that went on ( which there were plenty )
Music and photos are all we have to remember the past. That's why the fashions go round in circles and some things then come back into vogue , I remember a mini 60s revival in the 80s!!
Once the 90s nostalgia has worn off it'll be the 00s!! .. that will be boring lol
