Adult mum health worries

Hello all, would appreciate your views.

My mum is 67, widowed for the last 5 years. Semi-retired, generally independent.

She smokes, her diet is not great, she is thin, always has been, size 6-8, but despite the smoking she’s active, plays sport, works, always out and about.

With Covid we haven’t seen her a lot as we live in different countries but we have seen her now twice in the last few months and now I’m concerned. I would never have described her as healthy particularly - but her breathing is now a bit odd compared to what I remember pre-Covid.

When she eats she eats noisily. When she is focused on something like a TV show she breathes heavily. And she has always snored I think! But the noisy eating particularly alarmed me.

Any thoughts what this is? General old age or a genuine problem? To get her to a doctor will be tough, she will shrug it off. So any advice welcomed. Thank you x

How's her hearing? If she's losing it she might not be aware of how loud she's eating. Same with being relaxed watching TV.

Thanks for your reply @iklboo
Her hearing is not good, she has had hearing aids for some time but the breathing / eating is new. Possibly they’re linked somehow.
