I've got half a tank that I can't use. Not sure how to get it out though.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 27/09/2021 06:48

I filled up as normal on Saturday and a woman in the queue behind me called me selfish. Wtf has the world become?

Thecurliestwurly · 27/09/2021 06:48

People are incapable of blaming the right people in this country. Panic buying is what people do when they are scared. It's human behaviour. We need to ask why we are all scared in the first place.

Because if I've no petrol, I won't be able to get to go away on Thursday. That's what I'm scared of.

@Cripesitsthegasman19 did you say anything back to her? The irony of someone calling you selfish for putting petrol in when THEY are waiting to put petrol in perfectly sums up the hypocrisy displayed by some this weekend .

“ I NEED petrol for blah blah …. But YOU are a SELFISH IDIOT”

VanGoSunflowers · 27/09/2021 07:26

I am dreading what’s going to happen to the people who have filled up jerrycans and other inappropriate containers with fuel and are now storing them, presumably not in a safe manner, somewhere on their property.

TheIrritableGoldfish · 27/09/2021 07:26

As others have said. Who's fault is it that we have a crisis?

Truckers, haulage owners, the media, people, people who voted for Brexit, benefit scroungers, you, the cats, basically it's anyone's fault apart from the government.
How the government have achieved this I have no idea.

VanGoSunflowers · 27/09/2021 07:27

Incidentally, I went out to get fuel yesterday because the light was on.
I drove straight onto the forecourt, no queue, filled up with unleaded and off I popped. No issues at all. I wonder if some parts of the country are worse?

Tensions are running high. The UK is descending into chaos on many fronts. There are food and fuel shortages. The NHS is falling apart. There's a global pandemic, the government is beyond incompetent, and there is not a single decent political party as an alternative. Everyone is arguing about everything - race, gender, religion, and accusing each other of thoughtcrime. People are lashing out on social media. They need to vent. It's okay. Some people ARE behaving like idiots, some people just like calling people idiots because it's good to have someone to blame for all the stress. I don't know what the purpose of my comment is. I'm just worried about the UK. I'm not there at the moment, and if what I'm seeing in the news, on social media, and on MN, then it's all gone a bit wrong.

Confiscatedpopit · 27/09/2021 12:09

Balonzette, I could have written your post.

Add to those who work hard here or have genuine needs/vulnerabilities getting shafted at every opportunity as an extra- in my eyes anyway. And the total lack of concern and clout when it comes to the massively increasing anti-social behavior that is creeping in everywhere.

Porridgealert · 27/09/2021 12:59

I live in the NW and there are no food shortages here. I can get fuel but I might have to queue 10-15 mins. I got my flu shot two weeks ago at a chemist and yesterday, Sunday, my gps ran a walk-in centre fir flu jabs so all my family went down and got done. Life back here is pretty normal. All cafes restaurants, cinemas, etc open and no masks. Maybe my town is in a little, happy bubble? But I don't recognise this "chaos" that is being talked about nor do I feel tension on the streets or amongst colleagues and friends. I wouldn't take MN as a barometer of the state of the whole country.

Indeed. Fuel is completely out here in my corner of Surrey, but everything else is back to normal. There are no food shortages at all, but then people haven't been panic buying food. It's a self-made issue, stirred up by the media and others, and entirely avoidable. Toilet roll last year, fuel this year. Wait a week and no-one will have any spare capacity for fuel, and then the rest of us can fill it.
GiraffeClimber · 27/09/2021 14:40

I live in a large city in the north of England and genuinely perplexed by the “food shortages”. I did a big shop Saturday, got everything I wanted and the shelves appeared full. The only thing that seemed to be low stock were soft drinks but there were some. I’m not aware of any restaurants or cafes who have closed because they have no food to serve and went to a food festival at the weekend that was full of food.

Clearly there are petrol shortages but two of the four petrol stations I drive past on my way to work were open with fuel and minimal queues.
