To worry that general anaesthetic will be postponed due to a bit of chest congestion?

Biting my nails over this wondering if AIBU

Had a hysteroscopy scheduled under a GA. Been having some recurrent pregnancy loss issues and they think they've found "something" probably a polyp via ultrasound.

Was supposed to have the op last week but I came down with a cold so they postponed. Now due to have the op day after tomorrow and I'm 90% better but still have some chest congestion.

They said it can go through as long as I don't have a fever or productive cough. I feel great, no fever, I can take big deep breaths, all my other symptoms resolved but if I really listen my chest it sounds a bit congested. I'm not coughing up a lung all day every day but if I try to cough, if I cough 5+ times or really cough hard I can get a bit of gunk up.

Really gutted as I have been really looking forward to getting this sorted and if it doesn't go through this time I need to wait a month. Which doesn't seem like much but it's agony when we've been TTC a year, then add on another cycle to heal etc. Wondering if this bit of residual gunk is likely to postpone it again or if I can still go through? Anyone with experience on here able to chime in? Also the hospital said it would be a GA, is it ever possible to beg the anaesthetist for IV sedation instead to get around the intubation concerns with chest congestion? I had an ERPC done under sedation and it was great so not sure why they do the whole GA for a hysteroscopy.

Thanks, sorry I'm flapping about, this is all new to me.

I would normally delay for 4 weeks for a non urgent GA following a cold. Your airways remain hyperreactive and you’re more likely to have complications. Sedation doesn’t entirely get round these problems but a spinal would so that might be something to consider.

DSS was scheduled for an op with general anaesthetic this week. He had a chest infection, which he needed abs for. He would have finished the course 2 weeks before the op, and is no longer coughing at all, but they have said they are postponing as they want to ensure chest is fully healed before a general.

Flowers for the ttc, I know it’s tough, it took us 6 years for DS, but we got there eventually!
