Works night out and sick colleague

Colleague has been sick for weeks from covid and coughs/colds, and been WFH.

She’s coming out tonight despite being at home all week.

AIBU for thinking she should come?

So she's got long covid and reasonable adjustments have been made by her employer?

Talktalkchat · 24/09/2021 18:03

@girlmom21

So she always works from home? When did she test positive for Covid? Presumably she's done her isolation period?
Yes a month and a half ago. She’s been in the office after she’s finished isolation but seems to be picking up illness/sore throat etc.

She’s well enough to work from home, she’s just not coming into the office.

She had a sore throat this morning (we were on a teams calls) and she couldn’t talk much. At 3pm I called her and her throat was better. The illness comes in waves.

She lives alone and is quite shy, so I think this would be a good opportunity.

@Talktalkchat I'm really confused. Do you think she should be coming or not coming tonight?

ThreeLittleDots · 24/09/2021 18:05

So not sure if people will get paranoid she’s infecting them and her team will think she’s abusing WFH

Life is too short to worry about what other people think of you.

I think it’s too early to say long covid. I would say she’s maybe picking up colds etc from everyone. She’s got an issue with coughing due to stomach acid etc.

Yes I do.

Sounds like she is still recovering from the infection, but the guidance is clear about how long self-isolation is required for.

She has agreed her arrangements with her manager and is working. No reason she shouldn't go out. Colds are a fact of life I'm afraid, you'll likely catch one of someone this winter.

SpittinKitten · 24/09/2021 18:07

It's very kind of you to be so concerned about her and to keep detailed track of her exact ailments, time off sick/wfh etc Smile

WoozySnoozy · 24/09/2021 18:07

Well if she wants to come and you want her to come then I don't see what your issue is?

ImitationofBeing · 24/09/2021 18:10

Perhaps she has an underlying condition you aren't aware of and that's why she is wfh.

I’m sure that’s meant as a sarcastic comment.

We work on the same team and she sits next to me. We chat and if she’s wfh we all know about…. Becaus it’s fairly obvious.

Yes that’s what I was thinking so I didn’t know why she didn’t want to Come Out tonight.

She’s coming out tonight despite being at home all week

You just said she is coming out tonight.

I'm sorry but this thread is quite tricky to follow.

Gilly12345 · 24/09/2021 18:32

As she is WFH then she is not off sick, however if she is not feeling well then she is stupid to go out tonight.

What is the position?

Off sick or WFH?

JustLyra · 24/09/2021 18:36

It’s not clear what your angle is.

If she wants to come out then she should. If she doesn’t then she shouldn’t.

Not really anything to do with anyone else either way.

She’s having reservations and I’m trying to convince to her comes…. But then I thought maybe it’s a bad idea

No she’s WFH as she’s coughing and has a sore throat etc. It comes and goes.

traintraveller · 24/09/2021 18:46

She's not off sick though, she's been working. As even if she had been it's none of your business.

WoozySnoozy · 24/09/2021 18:52

She’s having reservations and I’m trying to convince to her comes…. But then I thought maybe it’s a bad idea just let her decide for herself

PuppyMonkey · 24/09/2021 19:01

She’s probably having reservations because she feels ill.Confused

Crunchymum · 24/09/2021 19:02

AIBU for thinking she should come?

Is this a typo? We're you asking if she shouldn't come?

OverweightPidgeon · 24/09/2021 19:07

Are you the person in question op ?

PurpleOkapi · 24/09/2021 19:18

If your work forbids her from coming to the office with covid symptoms (even if it's not covid), then her not coming in doesn't mean she's too sick to work. If she feels well enough to go out, and company rules allow her to attend company events, then she should go if she wants to.

WoozySnoozy · 24/09/2021 21:17

No that's what I thought but it seems OP wants to know if they are unreasonable to think their colleague should go.
