Posting for traffic.
This past 18 months + has been tough. Between having our holidays cancelled with covid, being quite ill as a family with it, and loosing my dm and other things.
My birthday in a fortnight or so and dh wants us to go on a break. Pre covid we went short haul abroad . He is going on and on about it . To me rain is the same everywhere.
We obviouly would be going UK or S Ireland.
Am I unreasonable to just not bother given that it whilst it will be a break it will be expensive. I can't even think where to go if we did go.
We are both fully vaccinated

I'd recommend Northern Ireland. It's a beautiful country even in the rain. There's so much to see and do.

Why can’t you go short haul? Confused

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 22/09/2021 16:59

It does sound like you need a break and if you could fly somewhere it sounds like you would go.
Can you think of things you would like to do that arent so weather dependent? Museums or art galleries or theatre or shopping or films or a spa? Then look at where has things on your list? No good booking a rural break with beautiful scenery if you dont want to walk in potential rain but would rather shop
We do have lovely sunny days in autumn but like you say it could equally be rainy

Going on holiday isn’t just about sunshine. It could be eating out for every meal, it could be going on day trips, it could be having a date every day.

It sounds like you do need the break x

Why not short haul?

But for some, a holiday really does need to be sunny and warm to be genuinely enjoyable.

I’m one of them

Day trips, meals out etc I find are something to endure rather than enjoy when raining and windy

We’re going to the Canaries. If you would normally do that why not now? Double jabbed so just one LFT on return home.

Jersey? Not uk but part of the common travel area so don't have to worry about changing money/speaking the language etc. but still a bit different to the UK. Weather is often slightly better than here as closer to France and there's lots to do.
If not any of the main UK/Irish cities really, there's something interesting in most of them. Depends on where you've already been, how far you want to travel, what you're interested in, etc.

UniBallEye · 22/09/2021 17:28

It's Ireland.

You could go anywhere - Madrid, Lisbon, Rome, Florence, Warsaw, Budapest, Paris, Berlin....

Literally anywhere if you want to. Flights are overall very reasonable at the moment.

Hope you find a great trip. For what it's worth I'd suggest Lisbon, beautiful city, usually lovely weather. I was there in December about 2 years ago and it was 18 degrees

Why can't you short haul?

Cryalot2 · 22/09/2021 19:47

Thanks all . We live in N Ireland.
We looked into going short haul but the rules were that we had to test before returning and if either tested positive fund our own isolation. Also dh had health problems since covid.
He has suggested Blackpool (where we spent our honeymoon 34 years ago,)
He thought there and possibly go from there to Chester or such. He is not into museums or anything.
We went to Jersey for my 60 th last year travelling via Heathrow. Day 2 we got a phone call to isolate and either remain in room for 10 days or travel home on an approved flight as someone on the flight had tested positive. It lashed down all the time were there .
Funny today my photos brought up photos I had taken a year ago and there was one of my dear mum 😥
Thanks again for any advice
