AIBU to think Waitrose ready meals are very poor quality

Just that. OH has recently bought a few and they have all been utterly tasteless. Examples included a breadcrumbed fish fillet with a very thick layer of crumbs and thin dry tasteless fish in the middle, spring rolls with leathery pastry and soggy tasteless filling, battered prawns with chewy batter and tasteless prawns, and nasi goreng with tasteless soggy egg and chicken bits and rice with a very hot but otherwise flavourless sauce. Honestly on one occasion I thought I had lost my sense of taste and did a LFT! I expected better from Waitrose.

All ready meals are crap, but if you have to have them then, as per pps, COOK are the best by miles (bit small though).

I don't mind the ten quid takeaway bags from Waitrose for eg curry for two on a Friday night. Though my teen sons can practicaly eat one of those bags by themselves.

Actually M&S does a good spicy sausage ragu pasta one. But basically all of them are chemical-filled rubbish that make me feel sad when I eat them.

Sparklingbrook · 22/09/2021 18:26

I prefer Charlie Bigham's too.

Limejuiceandrum · 22/09/2021 23:06

COOK. are awful and are for people that don’t love food, but like the idea of food
But think they’re better than a standard take away meal
It’s horrific, if I want a fat cheap meal it isn’t them

Bouledeneige · 22/09/2021 23:10

I don't really buy Waitrose ready meals but I do like some of the Charlie Bighams ones now and again. I tried a M&S ready meal the other day and it was really disappointing. I used to like their bistro range. But that was crap.

MyPatronusIsACat · 22/09/2021 23:37

Agree 100%. Waitrose is the most overrated of all the shops IMO. Anyone who does their main shop there is an utter mug.

Give me ALDI, Iceland, and Morrisons ANY day of the week.

MyPatronusIsACat · 22/09/2021 23:39

@Darkchocolateandcoffee

All ready meals are crap.

Wrong.

pelosi · 22/09/2021 23:56

I eat fish ready meals, and really like the Waitrose goan prawn and mango curry.

But that’s the only one I buy.

The M&S equivalent (around £4.50) is tasteless.

Davros · 22/09/2021 23:59

I think the bland taste of a lot of ready meals is because of the supermarkets reducing salt content, M&S anyway. Bung a load of salt on and voila! Maybe

avamiah · 22/09/2021 23:59

Yes I have found that and with M&S..

I like Wiltshire farm foods roast dinners to be honest and they do free delivery.

@CatTerrier

Ready meals are always shit no matter where they come from!
...unless they're from Cook!
genericuserneeded · 23/09/2021 00:33

I agree! Waitrose ready meals are essentially the same quality as Tesco

M&S ready meals used to be high quality, but I think they have adjusted their recipes over the pandemic. They’re now cheaper and therefore more mass marketable. There’s not really many options for nice ready meals tbh but I would go for M&S over the rest
