To think my house is too bloody cramped to WFH

I've been weaning off sertraline so I can try a different medication for anxiety and shit, it's left me feeling like utter dirt and one of the things I do when I am feeling like dirt is hoard furniture (hey, at least I don't gamble anymore).

The other thing I do other than hoard furniture is move furniture around. So, today I am sat in my utterly cluttered house that I have turned upside down over the past week deciding its time to move my desk from my bedroom. For some reason the "change" might make me feel good, or at least thats what my addled brain is telling me.

Help me! I have options and realistically they're all shit anyway.

Where it currently is my bedroom. Spare room isn't an option as thats my other half's man cave although I could work in there during the day as he isn't home but I don't like to see the mess he creates so I don't go in there.

Option 2 is the otherside ofthe kitchen. The fridge on the rightis going to the tip and to the left of the fridge freezer is a chest of drawers and a chair that are going. So there is space. It's just in the kitchen

In my head I want to have space in my bedroom but then again when I am depressed I literally roll out of bed and onto my chair so.

Someone adult for me I can't today.

And yes, furniture is slowly disappearing from my house don't worry.

Can you post a picture of the man cave to see if we can suggest a way to make it dual use?

It's not great for your mental health to work in your bedroom, it's hard to switch off and relax with a constant reminder of work stresses next to your bed. It's good to be able to shut the door on work at the end of the day.

Short term, I would clear out the kitchen and work there. Long term, redecorate the man cave, guitars go up on the wall, and you implement a clear desk/floor policy! You use it to WFH, he can use it in the evenings but he has to tidy everything away when he finishes. If he really needs to use it when you are working, you could have a second set of monitors for him elsewhere. Instead of playing with his toys, he can use the quiet work months to redecorate the room...

Defo get your work station out of your bedroom, it is not good for your mental well being or your sleep.

If I could have my wfh station in the kitchen I would, but I can't so it's the sitting room. Try and position your desk as close to a widow as possible for natural light.

I work in my kitchen, bit odd but I have a proper desk in the corner, and we are lucky that it's a big room and we can still eat round the kitchen table. It's warm and cosy in winter, and I can have the doors open and go outside in summer. So if you can make it work, I think working in the kitchen is a good idea.

Did you post about this before? I'm sure there was a poster who's DP had a room full of guitars and gaming stuff while she was shoved into a corner of another room.

Yes, he needs to get rid of his "man cave". That's the answer!

That said, I work between the dining table and a desk in my bedroom and it's fine. But I don't have fixed monitors. And no one in my house has a man cave.

@Annoyedanddissapointed

I've just realised they are all quite substantial plants😁😂 scrap the wall idea. Have you got moss pole for the monstera?
No I keep intending to get one thats why Mr Monster is all over the bloody place! He needs a bigger pot really but if I get a bigger pot then the bloody kitten will think, oh thanks bigger toilet for me.

That room is not tiny.

The huge recliner can go for a start!!

He will have to compromise on TV watching downstairs...

chesirecat99 · 21/09/2021 17:29

That's not so bad!

Guitar hangers on the wall, speakers on the wall, a lick of paint, add a few shelves for storage and some of your lovely houseplants, stick the guitar case under your bed, then lose the armchair and the man! The rest is just a bit of superficial mess.

Sexnotgender · 21/09/2021 17:34

Sorry he needs to tidy his shit up in there.
