To ask if this gift is real or fake?

It's my birthday and FIL & his wife sent over my present. I have opened it at home and it's quite a sizeable Louis Vuitton handbag.

I don't really own anything designer but step-MIL is obsessed with LV and gets herself something new for every birthday/anniversary. Normally they get me a top or some bath sh*t so I can't imagine they would spend hundreds, but they are quite wealthy and I thought they would be anti knock-off.

If it's real then I should be thanking them profusely. But to be honest it doesn't look great quality as I imagine LV would look inside - stitching, lining etc. It didn't come in a branded box or gift bag.

Would IBU to text thanks and ask if it's real? They are easily offended.

I don’t think it’s good form to give someone a fake as a present. As someone said upthread the links to crime/exploitation aren’t t good. Get yourself a fake that’s fine but don’t foist one in someone else. Perhaps they aren’t aware of the darker side of the fake goods industry.

Some people just like the 'look' of something designer and couldn't care less whether it's real or not, as long as they look expensive and wealthy.....others don't like the idea of contributing to a counterfeit goods ring.

His parents clearly don't understand what happens in the production of counterfeit goods. I'd just say thanks and give it to someone else who doesn't care whether something is real or fake.
