I came off my antidepressants about a year ago as they seemed to be doing nothing I’d been on three different SSRI’s. GP had this time recommended these instead.

Any advice and experience very welcome.

I wouldn't be able to function without it. (not because of the withdrawal effect, but chronic major mood disorder).
I still get a bit of dry mouth and clench my jaw more than I used to, but those are the only lingering side-effects.
SSRIs all stopped working for me fairly quickly, but venlafaxine had kept me going for years.
If I start to feel emotionally numbed by it, it's a sign I'm over-medicated and I cut the dose.

I've been taken venlafaxine for many years. I have tried to come off them with little success. They literally saved my life and it is a small price to pay. I take
225 g daily xx

Niffler92 · 27/09/2021 17:49

When do you guys take them? I’m on the two doses a day and can feel the jaw clenching getting worse in the afternoons.

I take mine at the same time every morning.

Have had some jaw / lip movement issues now & then but I assumed it was the anti psychotics I take too as they cause movement problems as a side effect.

SommerTen · 28/09/2021 18:37

I take the Modified Release version.

Niffler92 · 29/09/2021 11:52

Thanks luckily the side effects seem to be subsiding today after less than a week, which is much quicker than when I first went on SSRI’s which is good. All I seem to have left is a horrible taste in my mouth and tiredness.

Venlafaxine 300mg xr changed my life. I have asthma and take medication daily for that and will continue to do so. Venlafaxine is the same for my mental health.

Lifelines11 · 29/09/2021 12:07

I take mine in the morning.

I switched to venlefexine when my previous anti depressants stopped working.
I struggle with intrusive thoughts and self harming, and it is the only thing that worked.
If I miss a dose, I feel sick within hours.
I take it at night, right before I sleep, with a bed lunch.

Bed lunch?

I’m on the twice day version so just trying to work out when I should be taking it 12 hours apart?

Bed lunch is a small snack right before bed, to help you sleep through.
I usually have a bowl of cereal

I was on Venlafaxine for a few years and got on ok with it, be aware you can’t skip doses, I found I got headaches and irritable/tearful after even one missed dose, which I don’t on any other ADs I’ve had.

Looking back I’m much better and more stable now I’m on mirtazepine but it’s different for everyone. I know someone who couldn’t get on with mirtazepine at all, unfortunately it just is about finding what works for you.

WhoWants2Know · 29/09/2021 20:54

I've been on venlafaxine for years, and it definitely made a difference compared to SSRIs. It's partly because withdrawal is nasty that it's so effective-- I daren't miss a dose ever.

Thanks that explains this morning when I was late taking it and had taken it early last night.

I’m on venlafaxine + mirtazapine, which is the perfect combo for me. I take the venlafaxine in the morning and mirtazapine at night. If I forget my morning dose I soon realise as I get a pins and needles type feeling in my brain, it’s horrible! But after years of very bad MH, feeling suicidal etc I actually feel happy and stable.
