Stability issues and pram pushing - am I being unreasonable

Am I being over protective/unreasonable or unnecessarily worried…MIL has stability issues and uses a stick to walk. Husband always makes me give up the pram with my 4 month old baby to her as ‘it helps her to walk’. My heart is in my mouth constantly as I worry the pram will tip if she is using it as a walking aid. Husband thinks I am being silly and we fall out regularly about it. Any advice or opinions welcome!

It's hard to say without seeing how sturdy the pram is/how hard MIL is leaning on it.

But, if you're not comfortable with it then you need to tell your husband and MIL can take his arm/use a stick or a walker instead. You don't have to give over your baby if you don't want to, not to be used as a Zimmer frame

Depends how sturdy the pram is but it also sounds as if she would be better with a walking frame than a walking stick.

I think a pram would be quite hard to tip over? As it's got the 4 wheels.. maybe try for yourself without the baby in it?
At the same time if you're not comfortable with her pushing the pram and it's causing you stress .. then just say you'd rather be the one pushing it. They'll have to understand x

We used to fight over the pram on icy days because of the stability it gives you. Grin

It's hard to tell really without seeing it and also how far from the roads it is the pavement is. Where I live in some places you have to walk right next to the road and I'm so anxious I insist I'm the one who pushes the pram past that bit.

And I agree with others, she should get a proper walking aid not rely on the pram.

Absolutely not, my DF has mobility issues, I made the mistake of letting her push my DC, she fell & almost tipped my pushchair backwards. The only reason she didn’t is because I grabbed it and stopped it tipping over. It’s not worth it. Just say no.

If it helps reassure you, I have a really bad back problem that means that I would find it hard to walk without a stick. However pushing a pushchair/pram changes my centre of balance enough that the pain goes and I actually can walk properly and in a more stable way. So I often take over pram pushing when out with friends and family. I've never once pulled one over.

So it might depend on why your mil has trouble walking/what's causing the instability.
