Need I be concerned about this spot(?) under my breast. Pic attatched (not graphic don't worry!)

Hi, I'm posting here for traffic as I've spiralled into a bit of a panic. I will speak to my GP but would appreciate some reassurance tonight / in the mean time.

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and I have this spot/sore under my right breast. I first noticed it a month or so ago but put it down to sweating, being in a damper area and all.

I checked tonight in the bath and it's still there with no sign of going away. I've had OH have a look and it's not poppable, unless anything came out when I was washing in the bath which I don't know.

Any ideas what it could be other than something nasty? Sad

Could it be one of these?

It might be worth getting it looked at though just to put your mind at ease if it’s not going away x

Thanks Laura, I hadn't considered a breast boil as I'd never heard of them before.

Would a breast boil always be sore or tender as whatever I have isn't?

It's completely painless although I am aware of it now as I've been prodding and had OH try to gently squeeze it Blush

I'm going to call my GP but just realised it's the weekend and they're closed grr.

I forgot to say it's very much on the surface and not under the skin. No lumps or bumps under the skin that I can feel.

I think boils do tend to be sore or tender especially to the touch but that might not always be the case. Yes definitely the best thing is to get it checked out and call on Monday. Is it itchy at all? I Hope you are able to be reassured when you’ve had it looked at

whateveryousay · 18/09/2021 22:24

Seborrheic keratosis. I have one. Harmless. Can be removed with liquid nitrogen if gets in the way.

EmbarrassedNC21 · 18/09/2021 22:34

Laura - not itchy at all no. I only discovered it by washing underneath the crease, had I not then I'd be oblivious as It doesn't have any sensation at all infact. I had a boil on my backside once and that bloody hurt Blush

whateveryousay - I've never heard of that, thank you! Is yours in the same place? Did a doctor tell you that's what it is?

I'm usually a very rational person but my anxiety has shot up along with my pregnancy hormones. I wouldn't usually worry like this without due cause.

Yes, mine is under my breast. I see a dermatologist regularly for another skin condition, and he assures me regularly that that is all it is. Harmless! I mean, still get yours looked at, but it does sound very similar to mine. Mine is also ‘on’ the skin, rather than under. Also painless, not itchy etc.

dottiedodah · 18/09/2021 22:38

Hi there I had something very similar a while ago . Seen same day by nurse practitioner. Turned out to be a fatty cyst. She drained it and prescribed some antibiotics. I'm sure it's similar too but please get it checked out .it's not pleasant but better than leaving it uncheckefd

EmbarrassedNC21 · 18/09/2021 22:47

Thank you ladies, I really appreciate the reassurances!

When i run my hand over it, it feels a little like the skin tag I have on the back of my neck except it's obviously not skin coloured

I've just had another look and it seems to have a little hole in the centre, as though it has been popped but no residual pus or anything there.

Should I try to treat it or just leave it be?

Benzoyl peroxide? I have some lying around after a hormonal acne breakout last year.

I'd mention it to the GP or midwife team before home treatment just to be safe.
All unusual or new changes with the breasts should checked out.

EatYourVegetables · 19/09/2021 09:12

I’d get a dermatologist to check it out. Pregnancy means all sorts of things grow more than normally, including things you really don’t want growing.

EmbarrassedNC21 · 19/09/2021 09:20

I'm not due to see my midwife for another fortnight so I'll see if I can get a GP appointment tomorrow. It's hard to get past the receptionists at the minute though.

Oh gosh that sounds ominous, like what?

I had similar seemingly appear out of nowhere when I was expecting dc1. Gp and midwife both said it was an extra nipple that hormones had made turn pink and grow, exactly in the crease of my boob. I'd never heard of it before, but it's quite common. Deffo get it checked out!

Themadcatparade · 19/09/2021 10:07

Defo get it checked out anyway but I’m sure it will be harmless OP 🌸

How strange! I was thinking this morning that it looked a little like an extra nipple.. and it is right under the crease of the boob too Grin

Did yours go away?

I'm hoping I can see a GP tomorrow just to put my mind at rest. I can think of nothing else at the minute. Pregnancy hormones are sending me a bit doolally Sad

Couldhavebeenme3 · 19/09/2021 10:26

Well it's still there 18 years on but very tiny, more like a very pale scar (like where you might have knocked a scab off when you were a kid).

Google extra nipple - lots about how many women don't notice them until the hormones of pregnancy. Harry Styles has 2 extra, and I told a subsequent partner that he had one which really freaked him out but he'd assumed it was a mole on his otherwise completely unblemished skin.

But yeah, do get it checked.

EmbarrassedNC21 · 19/09/2021 10:29

I think that's what it is you know.. Shock

I've just been doing some reading and came across a thread on another parenting forum discussing them. One woman posted pictures and hers looked identical to mine.

Wow!

I'm definitely going to follow up with a GP tomorrow (well try to) but that hasn't half put my mind at rest for the weekend thank you so much!
