Cross stitch and other hobbies

After hearing that crafting such as knitting and sewing have increased in demand due to the various lockdowns

Did any one start a new hobby or pick up an old one

I love to cross stitch and knit. In the lockdowns I took on my first big project. I took me 6 months and was so worth it to break the bordem

Great looking projects on this thread. I love cross stitch and have done some larger projects in the past but I prefer doing small designs as I like to see it develop quickly.

@RVN123

Took up crochet for the first time during the first lockdown. I've since made 7 bedspreads, several bags, a few baby blankets and some winter bobble hats.

I'm really enjoying it. Spending a fortune on yarn though! I think this will be a hobby for a lifetime. I already do cross stitch, paper crafting/die cutting, have dabbled in decoupage, and jewellery making and sewing.
Have added pics of last bag and blanket completed. Working on another blanket for a Christmas present just now.

I love it. I’m not a crocheted one but I knit and do tapestry often put it down for months and then pull it up again. Those sunflowers though that would make me smile every morning do you take commissions ?? 💐

@Redshoeblueshoe thank you, i'm always a bit wary if its a brand I haven't use before. I'll give it a try.

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/10/2021 20:20

Lazyarse I've just finished one, I'll look up the make tomorrow, and let you know

I took up crochet just before DS2 went to university to train to be a nurse because he wanted a blanket to take with him. I’ve not really stopped tbh.

Through lockdown I made mask adaptors, hearts for hospitals and , bears in scrubs. I, also, made quite a few blankets for DS2’s friends’ children as they were having a hard time due to their parents being on the front line.

I’m crocheting poppies at the moment.

@Boood

I took up cross stitching over the summer. I’ve done one big one, and I started the next today- a big landscape of Tuscany in the autumn. I don’t use patterns, just kind of copy photos. I find it so relaxing, and I love doing something creative. I had no idea it was such a popular hobby though!
A friend of mine said she had recieved a large increase of orders

She owns a cross stitch shop

I'm really enjoying this thread! I paint, landscapes mostly but I enjoy painting flowers and birds too.

HighHighHopes that blanket is beautiful. I'd love to be able to crochet like that, I must make some time to learn!

Boood how do you transfer the photograph image to the canvas?

huuskymam · 01/10/2021 23:28

I've been cross stitching or knitting every evening for the past 20 years.it started off as something to do while the kids were in bed.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/10/2021 23:32

Cross stitch for me - mainly satsuma street patterns.

This is the most recent completed on (have another on the go)

I used to think yarn was expensive and I told my mum. She was horrified that I was buying new. Next time I saw her she had a massive bag of wool from a charity shop that was a quid. They sell them very cheaply round here, especially if its been reballed or the paper sleeve has been taken off
vampirethriller · 02/10/2021 07:33

I taught myself to knit by watching YouTube videos, I've been knitting jumpers and bootees for friends babies. Poundland wool is decent and 3 balls for £2!

DazzleDrops · 02/10/2021 07:41

I took up knitting again. Made myself a gorgeous scarf with little bobbles all over it, I knitted DM an ombre lace scarf as part of her Christmas gifts.
Currently knitting a patchwork blanket but I'm using chunky wool this time so the squares knit up really quickly. Yarn from Aldi which seems decent enough.

Last Christmas I knitted loads of little Xmas tree shapes in green yarn and then decorated them with buttons, sequins and glitter. Made a fab garland for the hall with them.

TheShadoutCrepes · 02/10/2021 07:46

I got into tapestry for the first time and am hooked.
The Ehrman tapestry company is going to end up making a lot of money from me I think. Already have two more kits sitting and waiting to be done.
First success was this cushion for dd1.

Your blanket and bag are gorgeous! Would you say Crochet is easier / quicker than knitting? I've never tried it, I always think it looks really complicated!

TheShadoutCrepes · 02/10/2021 07:48

Current projects. An particularly fond of Mexican party dogs.

@TwoleftUggs

Pre COVID I absolutely loved cross stitch, doing jigsaws and playing on my Nintendo switch. Post lockdowns I can’t bear to look at, or think about any of those things. So I’ve lost hobbies rather than gained them. I hope the urge to sew comes back soon, I’ve a cupboard full of projects that need finishing.
Goodness this is me too! I have a room full of craft stuff, scrapbooking, diamond art, cross stitch, paints, all neglected. I currently just read and peruse MN Sad
