Lidl parking charge

I do most of my weekly shopping at Lidl and have just received a parking fine for overstaying in the car park by 29 minutes, the time limit is 1 1/2 hours.

Yes I should have paid attention, it is a new branch that we’d never been to before and tbh I just didn’t think about the time limit.

This is such a shame, I love Lidl but have three kids all with varying levels of ASD who slow me down (I don’t take them all with me but often have one or two). I am also a bit of a ditherer and like to take my time choosing.

I will appeal the fine but I don’t fancy my chances of it being revoked. As I can’t risk this happening again, I have no choice but to not shop there anymore. Their prices have gone up anyway and we have closer supermarkets so no real loss to me - Apart from the parking fine!

Lidl say there’s nothing they can do as a third party looks after their car parks but they must be involved in setting the policies so why on Earth do they allow this to happen to loyal customers? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don't ignore it. This often used to work but there was a big case a few years back which had seemingly set the precedent. If they can demonstrate that it's likely you knowingly entered into the contractual terms then they can take you to court and many do this nowadays.

@Darkchocolateandcoffee

OP I also love food and shop in Lidl AND have an ASD child, but I cannot fathom how you could spend two hours in there with at least one child with ASK.

Honestly how did they not have a meltdown? When I do Lidl with my autistic son I am in and out in about ten minutes as the alternative would be horrific.

I do my foodie dithering in more luxurious food shops on my own!

Well as you well know not everyone with asd is the same.

This thread also shows not every NT person is the same re shopping.

🤷‍♀️

My local Aldi has a time limit. Think it's also 1.5 hrs as in right on edge of town centre. I use disabled bay as ds has a BB. Reminds me that I don't think I've ever seen a sign by the disabled parking. I must remember to look!

@RahRahRa

Totally agree Djifunrsn

Tbh, even if they do let me off the fine, this has put me off shopping with them. Why would they want to loose customers in this way? It makes no sense 🤷🏻‍♀️

There’s more than enough choice where we live and they’re opening up a new Aldi nearby very soon so I’ll just go there instead.

Surely they will lose more customers by not having anywhere from them to park because someone is overstaying the generous 90 mins free parking?

Mr Taylor advises never to ignore a Parking Charge Notice because legally, private parking firms can take you to court if you don't pay up.

He said: "Prior to 2015, to ignore them would have been the correct advice.

"But in 2015 in the Beavis v Parking Eye case, judges in the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, ruled Parking Charge Notices are enforceable and prices charged are just."

As a result, the judgement effectively rewrote the law of penalty charges, meaning parking firms will now be able to take you to court if you don't pay up.

Lockheart it should matter to Lidl that someone is spending £500 with them. Most supermarkets are now starting to use these leeches like Parking Eye which is a big mistake. They are not there to catch out those that park at Lidl but don't shop there. They are there to squeeze every last penny out of Lidl's shoppers . And they do try very hard.

Lidl and the other companies that use the likes of Parking Eye andVCS etc. etc. will come to regret using them as they cause more trouble and will lose them customers. Lidl employed the robbers and they do have the power to quash a number of PCNs but they failed to allow for the sheer number of times that they would have to cancel since these parking companies are rapacious.

Probably standing in the queue for the single till for at least 40 minutes if it's anything like the branch near me!

For some people 90 minutes is not generous. Those for example in wheelchairs who have to unload them from their car and then collapse them on return to their cars can easily lose 10 minutes there before they have started shopping.
Bear in mind too that these parking companies often film your car reg. on the way in and the way out. That does not take into account the time it can take to find a parking spot, especially at busy times. Nor does it take into account the time it can take to leave the car park if there is already a queue trying to get out on to a busy road.
I am sure Lidl will lose more customers who have received PCNs than who cannot wait for five minutes for a parking spot.
Also someone who spends a long time in their store and therefore more likely to spend a lot of money there is more likely to get a ticket but is exactly the kind of customer that Lidl should want to keep coming back. Crazy psychology by Lidl.
