Hi,

Advice needed from seasoned school goers!

My kid puked Wednesday evening, so she's got to be off school Thursday and Friday.

I'm fairly sure the puke was emotional/stress related- she'd got a bollocking at school and was really upset/stewing on it a bit. It all came out at bedtime- figuratively and literally 😷

As she's not allowed in school despite being fine AIBU to take her for a day out to Legoland or is that frowned upon?

Thanks

Does school know she puked?

Terminallysleepdeprived · 16/09/2021 22:17

Are you a nurse or doctor?

Are you medically qualified to guarantee she isn't ill?

If not don't be a dick. Keep her home and protect other people.

LolaSmiles · 16/09/2021 22:18

There's lots of sickness bugs going around so I don't understand why any parent would take a child who has recently vomited to a family attraction.

Ifyoudontlikeitdosomethingelse · 16/09/2021 22:20

No please don't. It's fucking gross catching sick bugs. 🤮

TwoLeftElbows · 16/09/2021 22:21

YABU, you can't know it's not a bug.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 16/09/2021 22:21

I think if she had been sick only once after a bollocking, and then was absolutely fine today all day, eating normally etc then I might think less of the day out than if she'd been peaky for the rest of the day and off today too.

Are you feeling particularly cabin fevery? Could you have one more sofa day tomorrow and promise legoland for your next inset?

modgepodge · 16/09/2021 22:22

I think, if she’s been ok for 24 hours (no sickness, temperature, otherwise well in herself), and you’d send her in to school if it was permitted, then it’s ok to use the day as you see fit 🤷‍♀️ When my daughter was a baby/young toddler, she went through a phase of vomiting almost every night, whilst otherwise seeming fine. I didn’t keep her at home for 48 hours each time! Sometimes people are sick for reasons that aren’t a contagious bug.

Wole · 16/09/2021 22:23

It's like if you had sick days from work in food manufacturing then decided it would be fine to go and visit a care home and spread vomit bugs there

Wole · 16/09/2021 22:24

If you think she's fine for legoland I don't see why you don't think she's fine for school. She's either contagious or she's not.

Presumably school won’t let her in. I’m a teacher and we don’t take kids for 48 hours after vomiting, my childminder has the same policy too. Regardless of how not ill the child might be.
NorthernDramaLlama · 16/09/2021 22:26

I'm obviously a terrible person. If DC is sick once and once only (and I can say it was worry, over eating, bad cold and lots of catarrh) I send them to school. But DC are the type of kids who don't go around saying how they puked up their tea! Sick more then once or no reason for it, we stay at home. If you've told school and are confident it was a 'one vomit event', enjoy a day out :-)

Meatshake · 16/09/2021 22:27

School knows she puked.

She was sick once right after crying, then nothing since then. Not a doctor but it doesn't exactly scream norovirus to me. We'd also be 32 hours free since last puke by the time we actually got there... Not sure that's recent?

Does this mean I could say my child is sick....take her Lego land and get away with it? In the future.... even if I said well you wouldn’t let her in sooooo....bonus!!

Believe me I'd much rather send her in! She'd prefer it too ☺️

Do op and I’ll see you there Grin

Wole · 16/09/2021 22:29

Maybe somewhere low key like a national trust property where you won't get other kids? Though I imagine the only other kids at lego land will also be pukey isolating ones?

Last one in drench towers splash park is a rotten egg.

(It's a joke, before anyone gets too flamey! I won't let her in the splash park!)

Why won't you let her in the splash park op?

Wolfiefan · 16/09/2021 22:37

I can’t think of a worse idea. Child vomits. Take them to theme park to mix with lots of other people and go on rides until they vomit again. Confused

BobsBurgersisthebest · 16/09/2021 22:37

My child puked a few days ago.
6 times in about 12hrs. That was a bug.
When I was younger, I used to be sick when I was very upset. People thought I put it on but I couldn't control it.

I’m sure a lot of elderly folk would love to pick up a sick bug while having a quiet afternoon National Trusting. 🙄

Look, if your child might be contagious, don’t take her anywhere she might infect other people. Especially not on theme park rides where she might share it more widely than you expect 🤮. Don’t teach her that if she’s off sick she gets treats or you might make a rod for your own back.

Wole · 16/09/2021 22:39

An outside national trust place i meant not a stately home. Viruses spread less outside.

TwoLeftElbows · 16/09/2021 22:40

Sounds like you've made your mind up.

Rollercoasters will certainly stress test whether her tummy has quite recovered.

Wole · 16/09/2021 22:40

And there's less touching things than at lego land

Apart from the loos and the tea room and the ticket office…
