Duvets!

Gorgeous weather today, so spring (autumn) cleaned our bedroom, new feather duvet & pillows ready for the colder weather.
My old feather quilt looked absolutely disgusting in colour in comparison to the new one! 😳
Be honest, how often do you buy a new duvet?

@mafted

I can't believe how many people have different duvets for each season. We have one for all. Also wondering what gargantuan washing machines people have, mine can't even fit a single duvet in never mind king size.
We bought a 2-piece set, light and medium weight that button together to make a proper heavy winter weight.

Each quilt fits in the machine separately, it's an ordinary domestic machine. And we can choose which weight we want, to cover just feet in the heavier quilt etc. Cost about £150. But we know that, as we are in our mid to late 50s, we won't be buying any more new ones, ever!

the chemicals used in dry cleaning.
but it is likely that a laundry service washes a duvet with ordinary water and detergent.

I have a 4 tog one for summer and a 15 tog for winter. The 4 tog easily fits in the machine and drys nicely on the line so that is washed almost every time I was the bedding.

The winter one is a bit more tricky, it does fit in my machine (barely) but I have a big washing machine! It just takes forever to dry, even in my tumble drier so I do try to limit how often it is washed.

I don't think ours has ever been washed. It's about 6 years old now. We have 2: a 7.5 tog winter one and a 2 tog summer one.

The problem is it's cheaper to buy a new duvet than it is to have it cleaned locally here. Last time I took mine to the laundrette it cost £17 to clean a £13 duvet

Took mine to a Launderette to use a big machine. Sitting there with a book and relaxing. Felt like a student again
But this year have changed to sheets and lightweight blankets. More comfortable for us.

I enjoy a trip to the Launderette, leaving children at home and then I can sit and read a book in peace for once, however I was disappointed last time I went as I was getting settled into my book the machine had already finished, I think modern Laundrette machines are much quicker than in the good old days!
