If it is, in what way? How do you make it interesting, what do you do?

OP posts:
ivfbabymomma1 · 16/09/2021 19:45

My life feels chaotic. sometimes I wish it could be more chilled. Maybe that's my goal for next year. I have a part time job, a DH, a son, planning pregnancy number 2, currently doing house reno work. Have plenty of friends to keep up with, I appreciate this isn't interesting which is why I said chaotic! I feel like someone with a different mind set could say my life is chilled & boring!

Doubledoorsontogarden · 16/09/2021 20:00

Mine is interesting, I get to travel (pre covid), work in a great sector, live in a nice part of the country and get to fo “stuff” like theatre, beach, fine dining etc

Stompythedinosaur · 16/09/2021 20:01

My life is interesting to me, but probably wouldn't interest other people. I enjoy my job (mainly) and it gives me regular chances to learn new things. I do hobbies I enjoy. I have good conversations with dp and dm about things we are both interested in.

Moonface123 · 16/09/2021 20:19

It's as interesting as you make it.
Never stop learning, be open to new experiences and a new way of looking at things.

FrownedUpon · 16/09/2021 20:29

Yes, my job’s interesting & stimulating most of the time. I’m constantly learning through it. I have a few hobbies including sports, reading, yoga, hiking.

We try to visit new or favourite places each weekend for days out or a whole weekend. Usually have several holiday a year abroad & I love planning and experiencing new countries.

ofwarren · 16/09/2021 20:31

You dont necessarily need money to shake things up a bit and make your life more 'interesting' to yourself.
These people are on Mumsnet so they have internet access. There are hundreds of free courses to do, you can get an online pen friend, you can use free apps to look around museums, read free ebooks, research any topic in the whole world.
When not online you can do things differently sometimes. Cook something you haven't eaten before, walk a different way that you haven't been before, discover new things about your neighbourhood.
There are endless things to do/explore/think about.

GoddamnCars · 16/09/2021 20:31

Never boring. Just finished a degree in my 40s. 3 mad teenagers. Partner is entertaining and pleasantly unpredictable. Job involves problem-solving and is active, working with multiple patients and colleagues all day. I always have a goal or two - currently we really want to get some rescue ferrets!

Everyone’s life is different though. I care for my father with dementia who is very difficult. I also have three children from 19 to a baby (yes, my choice I know) and now health problems myself on top.

I get though the day, that’s all I can do.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 16/09/2021 20:38

Mines interesting to me because I try to do stuff that I find interesting.
It helps that I’m fascinated easily by lots of topics and love going out and about.

nokidshere · 16/09/2021 20:43

@43goingunder

I would so love to do a part time masters online, but can’t afford to shell out money for that.

Why don't you do some of the Open University free courses? I've done a few and there are lots to choose from.

www.open.edu/openlearn/free-courses/full-catalogue

nokidshere · 16/09/2021 20:47

Mine probably isn't interesting to anyone but me. I have mobility issues so can't get around as often as I would like, but I paint (and sell my work), bake & create cakes, I love digging into stuff and can rabbit hole for hours on any number of bizarre subjects. I do OU free courses. All of this and lots of great friends to do interesting things with.

I'm very lucky.

Shakeyourface · 16/09/2021 20:48

Plus many people in poverty, with poor health, with other life challenges simply can't be 'interesting

Sorry @lannistunut I think that’s a pretty blinkered and offensive view. I’m sure plenty of people who live the above lives find things of interest within them. It’s not something preserved for the wealthy and healthy. What an odd view

ChristmasCocktail · 16/09/2021 20:50

Mines stressful and dull due to auto immune and neurological diseases. But I must admit there's nothing better than being curled up in bed with a good book and a cat - I'm getting old before my age. Grin

AnyOldPrion · 16/09/2021 20:52

Yes. Interesting enough that I write a weekly blog about it. But frankly I’d rather my life was a bit more settled and less stressful.

Maybe the grass is always greener…

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 16/09/2021 20:52

I'm an infant school teacher. Never bored!

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 16/09/2021 20:58

Sometimes it is-out for dinner in nice places, art exhibitions, gigs, theatre, out with mates. Other tones it isn't-in on my own, work, walk the dogs etc... most people's are a mix surely?

Marni83 · 16/09/2021 21:06

* Plus many people in poverty, with poor health, with other life challenges simply can't be 'interesting*

You’re being patronising

You can still find your life interesting AND be in poverty / Ill

OrangeBananaFish · 16/09/2021 21:08

@Shakeyourface

Those of you who find your lives boring. Why don’t you change it? Appreciate you can’t change health issues etc but many many people are not enjoying their lives for no reason as far as I can see. You only live once. Get to it
@Shakeyourface I agree with what you've said. It is down to me to make my life interesting. The only problem I have is knowing what to do TBH. I am restricted due to having no money at all (bills leave me with about £20-£50 spare a month that soon goes).
Rocket1982 · 16/09/2021 21:11

I'm a scientist so day to day my job is always changing depending on what research questions I'm pursuing. And there's always the chance of a genuinely new discovery, which are great moments even if they only happen occasionally. The rest of my life isn't that interesting, or at least it hasn't been since the pandemic started. Sometimes I worry that my main interest is my job.

batmanladybird · 16/09/2021 21:13

I feel very meh since covid

Fernando072020 · 16/09/2021 21:17

For me, yes. But might seem boring to others. I study something I really enjoy - something I'd do as a hobby too. I write for my own benefit - historical fiction which transports me to another world for a while. I enjoy family life - walks, day trips, sitting around the dinner table. I live in a different country to my home country.
Simple stuff but I enjoy it all

MissAmbrosia · 16/09/2021 21:18

Mine's interesting to me. I have a job I like and get to speak to people in lots of different countries on a daily basis. After covid I hope to get back to a bit more travel and see them in the flesh. I have nice friends and we meet up a lot and have days and evenings out. Normally we travel quite a bit, weekend breaks especially and that's something Covid killed last year. I have some hobbies I never have enough time for. I never have the chance to be bored really. I have a Netflix etc. list that grows daily as I don't have time to watch much tv.

Auntienumber8 · 16/09/2021 21:18

Before I was ill in my late forties I had a very full and interesting life
that I loved. Now it’s much quieter but I do love gardening and gaming.

Worked in higher education for over 25 years, met a lot of politicians of various colours and many interesting people.

Political campaigning when young, went on a lot of marches and was in two full blown riots, helped write equal ops policies in local government. Was head of a union branch for six years in HE.

Lots of hill walking, climbing trees, swimming in the sea. Helped set up a charity and have sat on the board of another. Been on tv and radio a couple of times about fund raising. Tried a lot of dance classes, did belly dancing for 2 years and some ballet and tap. DH and I did some ballroom dancing. Sang in three different choirs at different times of my life.

Taken a few art classes and tried different crafting, was ok at pottery and took classes for 2 years. Am a quite decent cook of Cantonese cookery which my Father taught me. English friends love coming to dinner.

I climbed my last tree when I was somewhere between 40 and 42, of every single thing that I miss the most.

NoodleNooNoo · 16/09/2021 21:36

Life? No. Job? Very.

Life: I have a lovely husband, 3 step kids who I have a great relationship with, 2 best friends, cooking, cleaning, laundry.... but I’m lucky to have a family life that is boring rather than filled with drama and stress.

Work: stressful, distressing, always interesting. I have worked with killers, serial killers, victims of various terror attacks. Sometimes boring is good.

DarlingFell · 16/09/2021 21:38

My life is v interesting, to me! I live rurally which presents many opportunities if you're outdoorsy like me, horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, star gazing, existing close to nature is so incredibly good for my soul, and every day the dogs and I find a new walk and we see deer and birds of prey frequently.

DH and I are into the same things which makes life even more interesting. We go on lots of weekends away to new places, sometimes luxury hotels, sometimes mountainside campsites. We always have a holiday booked to look forward to, or we are planning one, doing something active like mountain climbing or diving. We've just booked a snowboarding trip to Whistler for January and recently drove to South West France and took the dogs kayaking. Our two lovely dogs have definitely made life even more enjoyable. I have some lovely friends that I can be both intellectual and silly with in equal measure.

I'm v interested in a plethora of subjects and issues, and read and research constantly.

I work in London 2 days a week in a fulfilling job I enjoy, so I feel I am fortunate to have the best of both worlds. However, my life is far more interesting to me now than when I lived in Central London, when life was more about bars, restaurants, and dating. It felt shallower back then..I guess I've always been a country girl at heart.
