Toddler just put iPhone in mouth

Ida37 · 15/09/2021 21:05

My son just put my plugged in and switched on iPhone charger in his mouth. Should I be worried? There seems to be no ill effect at the moment…

No, honestly, he’ll be perfectly alright.

AdobeWanKenobi · 15/09/2021 22:04

I promise you if that's the worst thing your toddler has eaten today, or even this week, you're doing just fine.

You don't know you've lived until you've had a half chewed snail spat back in your hand.

HurryUpAndWait23 · 15/09/2021 22:05

My son used to take the charger out and put it directly into his mouth because he liked the 'buzz' feeling in his mouth Confused

And yes I did stop him, I just wasn't always fast enough.

I tried it. It significantly less buzzy than when you put your tongue on one of those double ended batteries.

@Shoxfordian

As long as your phone still works then it’ll be ok

@brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Ensure you update the toddler to the latest version of the operating system, if in doubt reboot your toddler by pressing [nose + mouth + bellybutton]
This is too cute 😃
Antinerak · 15/09/2021 22:24

He's fine. Do you often worry about things like this- him being unwell without you knowing?

You seem quite clued-up about these things. My toddler (running on the Cocomelon OS) seems to have developed a few faults. The volume control seems very random and won't do as I would like, and it's still coming out of sleep mode when it should be recharging overnight. I've tried to restore factory settings, but I keep getting the error message "No!"

Any ideas?

Antinerak · 15/09/2021 22:32

@Bananarama101 Have you still got the receipt?

GivenchyDahhling · 15/09/2021 22:32

@Bananarama101 Are you still covered by your warranty? If not check your home insurance.

Ozanj · 15/09/2021 22:33

Check the charger. Is any of the gold coated bits missing? DS nibbled on mine and ate all the gold plated bits off. It all eventually came out in his poo. I would call 111 - they were really assuring and gave me the signs of what to watch out for

Nighttimenope · 15/09/2021 22:36

My toddler has done this hundreds of times. I’m not sure that’s reassuring because he’s completely nuts but he still seems himself 😁
Yes of course he’s always told no, they’re put out of reach, taken off him… he likes a challenge and a telling off so it ticks all the boxes for him. Probably likes that buzz previous posters have mentioned as well.

PhilCornwall1 · 15/09/2021 22:42

Just stuck a switched on charger in my mouth. My arse is currently syncing with ICloud.

Happyhappyday · 15/09/2021 22:52

I think as long as your toddler doesn’t have a USB port in their mouth you’re good…

Balonzette · 16/09/2021 02:26

Do you think he was electrocuted and you didn't notice?!

Mollymalone123 · 16/09/2021 02:32

I saw two photos recently of toddlers who had burns to their mouths from putting charging cables into their mouths. This was on a paediatric first aid course.I was surprised and maybe the cables were broken and that added to the injuries.

phishy · 16/09/2021 02:38

If your toddler is not prone then he’s fine.

Honestly these threads just get more and more bizarre. Attention-seeking?!

I think it's possible that some knock-off / cheap crappy chargers could deliver a shock. I've seen teardowns of some of those, and the transformers don't adequately separate the high voltage side from the low voltage side due to the corners cut to make them so cheap.

Reputable / OEM chargers are much better protected.

Sommernacht89 · 16/09/2021 11:57

He will be fine unless he chewed the charger to bits and ate your phone and charger.

That gave me a good chuckle.

It fine, OP. Don’t worry.

Someone posted on my local facebook group the other day that their toddler had swiped a couple of gulps of cold coffee out of a mug and were asking if they needed to take him to A & E for caffeine poisoning.

They were most put out when even nurses were telling them not to worry, then threw a stop and said they were taking him any way.

That must have been a fun A&E trip.

I think some people just overthink and panic.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 16/09/2021 12:09
@Rugsofhonour yes I was abit worried about that - I was once told that could happen…
You were told you could have a delayed onset electrocution? By who?!

thewhatsit · 16/09/2021 12:10

Does this not happen to most toddlers approx 300 times a day?

lovelybitofsquirrell · 16/09/2021 12:26

i remember a 'game' my brother an i would have in my dads van.
we would lick the charger which was plugged into the cigarette lighter. It just tingled. Apart from being weird kids, we are very much alive and had no lasting effects on us.

ImprobablePuffin · 16/09/2021 12:46

Honestly I thought this was a joke thread about ridiculous things parents post about.
The comments have not disappointed though Grin.
Reminds me of the mum who squeezed shampoo directly into her eyes to see if would hurt before she used it on her kid
