To study online until booster jab

Hi All,

Need some guidance and someone to help me.

I am due to start a uni course next week, which consists of 1 day online and 1 day in campus. My MIL who is on the shielding list and is due to have booster jab in the next couple of weeks. I have emailed uni to ask if its is okay to study for the next couple weeks online and then go into campus as soon as MIL has had the booster jab to which they have said to defer studies till January however that would jeopardise my potential job offer for September 2022.

Could someone advise me what I should do or how to encourage uni to give me 2 weeks online and then I will be in class as soon as mil has had the booster jab.

Why don’t you just avoid your MIL for the next couple of weeks? Are the boosters going to make that much difference anyway? Double jabbed was supposed to be the be all and end all!! Mmmmmmm.

FYI - I live with my Mother-in-law & come from a cultural background were blended families are normal. She's not very mobile and it would not be feasible for me to just isolate into one room and avoid her.

I don’t really think there is a strong rationale for your request.

The onus is on you to take extra precautions around her and when you are in college. What risk of catching COVID are you trying to avoid and why can it not be avoided?

@PinkiOcelot I don't know how much a difference it will make with the booster jab however I would hate for myself to catch COVID pass it onto her and potentially loose her. It is only a matter of 2/3 weeks. But at least if she had the booster jab it would give me peace of mind knowing we have done everything possible to keep her protected etc

I would start the course and when on campus do what you can to mitigate against catching Covid. Sit near the back of the class or near a window, wear a mask at all times, wash hands, go outside at breaks/lunch rather than mixing in the cafe etc.

This.

I’m not sure how much difference boosters are going to make anyway. We’re in danger of lurching from one ‘just until this happens’ to another.

Ate you double jabbed?

I'm not sure what guidance you need. You asked and the uni said it wouldn't work. Presumably if half teaching is face to face they have a rationale for this.
