Perfumes for inducing a vomitty rage

In response to this lovely thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/4336303-Perfumes-of-your-life?pg=4 AIBU to suggest we get some lists of perfume that send you into a head-achy verge of vomiting rage? I’ll start with one I had to sit next to for a 5 hour stretch recently - Youth Dew 🤢. Also disliked by my mother, I’m still getting flash backs now.

Also I’ll add Lulu 🤮. Someone used to wear loads of it at work. I could barely keep my breakfast down when I walked in first thing.

smelt like a who-ers handbag

😂 😂

ThePunnyMonster · 16/09/2021 13:02

2 out of my top 4 are on this list Blush. My first favourite hasn’t been mentioned though so I’m relieved I’m maybe not offending too many peoples olfactory senses

Sleeplessem · 16/09/2021 13:16

Anything rose 🤢

Marmite27 · 16/09/2021 13:33

I’ve got about 15 on the go, and so far only one has been mentioned (Gurlein Insolence) and then only once, phew!

LaBellina · 16/09/2021 13:37

My mother in law used to douse herself in Giorgio Beverly Hills. I hated sitting opposite her during dinners as I could smell it whilst eating the food!

My grandmother loved Gloria Vanderbilt which is even worse.

SingingSands · 16/09/2021 14:03

Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin. People used to rave about it. DH bought me some once as a Christmas gift and I actually threw up after spraying it - I'd never had a reaction like that before!

And Sauvage aftershave - absolutely stinks and instant headache. Even if someone walks past in the street wearing it it makes me queasy.

@bellabelle1994

Aromatics 🤮
Aromatics elixir yes! 🤢🤮I was either given this or bought it in my early 20s and disliked it intensely.

For those who loved eg Angel when younger (which I did!) does our sense of smell change dramatically as we age do you know?!

Chocolatier9 · 16/09/2021 15:45

I have heard that Chanel no 5 smells better on and to women who are menopausal but I’ve no idea if that is nonsense or not

SourSweet · 16/09/2021 15:55

Mine is on the list! Elizabeth Arden Green Tea.
I also used to love CK One... my bottle ran out some years ago.

I have bought Issey Miyake for my Mum and Angel for my sister. Neither of those were nice on me but I loved them on other people.

MintyGreenDream · 16/09/2021 16:01

I wear Alien and get compliments.Maybe it suits my skin.

It's nonsense. Believe me!
InPraiseOfBacchus · 16/09/2021 16:42

Eden by Cacharel. Even as someone who likes unusual smells and has a large collection, I had to bin this one. Really nasty, in a heavy and pointless way. Not even sure what it was supposed to smell like!

I also used to love Samsara by Guerlain, but I recently had a spray of mine and realised it was a horrible, synthetic-sandalwood nightmare that could knock someone out at 30ft and would NOT go away. No wonder people used to avoid me on the bus!

Right now I'm loving my big-hair 80s perfumes like Opium, but I make sure to dot them on lightly (and never, ever wear them to dinner!)

Maireas · 16/09/2021 16:49

Anaïs Anaïs by Cacharel.
I wonder, like pp if our sense of smell changes? I used to love that, and Giorgio.
I find them unpleasant now.
Unless the formula has changed?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 16/09/2021 17:18

Je Reviens! I'd forgotten that one. Sacre bleu, c'est abominable.

It was also the name of the boat from in which Rebecca de Winter's corpse was fished out of the drink. Seems apt.

purplesequins · 16/09/2021 17:21

charley - dsis had a large bottle
oh how I suffered if I had to ise the bathroom after her in the mornings

and lynx - there is one which smells of dog poo to me.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 16/09/2021 17:30

Amarige and Organza by Givenchy. Woman I used to work with wore them copiously. How do you ask someone not to? I never managed it.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 16/09/2021 17:31

Chanel No.5 smells like musty old ladies. (Apologies to old ladies.)

Toomuchtrouble4me · 16/09/2021 17:35

Lou Lou - my bestie used to wear it and it’s sugary sweet and made me heaven but she was hyper sensitive to criticism so I could never say anything.

Costumeidea · 16/09/2021 17:37

Rain by Marc Jacobs. Smells like someone trying to cover up stale cigarette smoke.

Mia184 · 16/09/2021 17:42

@Biffsboys

Obsession and eternity . Worst ever was Clinique Aromatics - no idea if they still sell it 🤢
Yes, it is still being sold and I like it in winter.

What I really hate is Narcisio Rodriguez in the black or light pink bottle. I used to like it for a very short time. I now have a colleague who seems to shower in that stuff. You can still smell it in the kitchen five minutes after she has left.

nbee84 · 16/09/2021 17:44

Cerrutti 1881 - smells like strong perfume that's gone off 🤮

Mummabear89 · 16/09/2021 17:47

I can't stand the smell of any perfume, aftershave, deodorant etc but I have asthma so I think that it stems from that

SmoggieC · 16/09/2021 17:48

Joop aftershave. Vile

DalmatianAddict · 16/09/2021 17:49

Urgh the original Prada, my ex MIL wore it, Channel Mademoiselle, Sunflowers and Lulu Confused

FamBae · 16/09/2021 17:50

@Neonplant

There's a lot of people with very delicate constitutions on here. All the headaches, migraines and nausea / vomiting induced by perfumes is worrying.
My thoughts exactly Grin
