To hand my work notice in via email?

I know it's not professional, I have been waiting to see my boss for 3 weeks now, she's under a lot of pressure, she's been on annual leave or compassionate leave and came for about a month, came back and everyone has been wanting to see her or she's working at home. I only work 2 days a week so really struggling to see her (she usually comes to the session we work at but hasn't been for ages!)
Would you email explaining? Part of me thinks it's disrespectful. She's a lovely lady but I really need to hand it in as the weeks are going by! What would you do?

I would type up a letter and attach it to an email with an apology for not doing it in person and explaining why.

Just ring her? Surely better than waiting, and you can follow it up via email if that counts for formal resignation

I handed my notice in by email last December. I didn't have much choice though, as the office was closed and we were all working from home. Email it - your boss will understand!

@Minfilia

This plus a phone call.

I did once. But that was because it was a terrible workplace and I had absolutely no respect for the boss I was emailing it to, he was a bully and staff were leaving in droves.

I think I'd probably do the first suggestion and attach a letter to an email and just explain you haven't been able to speak to her.

SusieBob · 14/09/2021 16:50

You're overthinking it. Just email it.

Zarene · 14/09/2021 16:52

I'd talk to her if you can, then follow up by email. If you can't speak first, email is fine. Someone resigned to me like this (phone then email) recently and it was totally fine!

I don't know why you'd need a letter in 2021!

Just email

YouTubeAddict · 14/09/2021 17:10

These days email should be fine shouldn’t it? My last three workplaces have all accepted it via email (all NHS)

LoobyLou2709 · 15/09/2021 07:44

Thank you, yes I definitely over think things! Just thought it wasn't very professional, YouTubeAddict I'm also NHS, going to put an email together today xx
