After maintaining a weight of 9st 7lbs for years I have gone up to 10st 7lbs, so I’m trying to loose that extra stone at the moment. Nothing in my diet has changed to make me put on the weight so I think it is possibly from a change to my birth control pill.

Today is day two and after not eating since 6pm last night I practically inhaled my lunch at 12 noon on the dot! Please tell me this gets easier and if not please share your coping methods as I am really struggling with the lack of food.

I am trying to loose as much as possible as quickly as possible so I done need to buy new clothes for autumn as I have loads that are a little to tight.

I will attach a picture of my lunch, that is all I will have until 6pm where I will have a jacket potato with 2 table spoons of grated cheese and a salad similar to the one I had for lunch minus the hummous.

That’s not healthy. Please don’t starve yourself, you need more calories. You stick to a diet by making it realistic and achievable not by starving yourself!

GiantHaystacks2021 · 14/09/2021 12:28

You need protein to fill you up.

I'm in same boat. I have a big appetite and need to lose 2 stone.
I'm also trying not eat after 6 pm.
There's no way round it, I have to start eating a lot less and hopefully my appetite will shrink over time.

Redgeraniums · 14/09/2021 12:28

That looks like fuck all good! That’ll be why your starving. Really lettuce and cucumber doesn’t even count. So calories wise, you’ve got a tablespoon of hummus.

Ozanj · 14/09/2021 12:29

Has your activity changed? If not then I’d seek medical advice first. The pill can cause weight gain but so can all kinds of other nasty things.

Findahouse21 · 14/09/2021 12:29

I use my fitness pal to log everything I eat. It means I can eat anything I want but may then have to make compromises with other food eg I can have a couple of small chocolates if I forgo my morning cappacino etc

CyanideInTheFishPaste · 14/09/2021 12:29

doesn't sound like you'll be consuming much fat or protein today. You'll definitely be hungry.

TheBullfinch · 14/09/2021 12:32

You need to add eggs or tuna to that or you'll be ravenous by 5.

Get yourself over to the low carb bootcamp thread.

purplecorkheart · 14/09/2021 12:33

You need protein to fill you up and make you feel fuller for longer.

MaryMcCarthy · 14/09/2021 12:35

You can lose weight while eating well. That's not really a substantive meal you've posted. It's not sustainable or healthy.

JacketSpud55 · 14/09/2021 12:36

I asked the nurse at my pill review and was took that weight gain is a side effect to this particular pill, my last pill was discontinued so had to switch. I don’t have many choices pill wise as I suffer with migraines and I’m over 35.

CyanideInTheFishPaste · 14/09/2021 12:37

Avocados, eggs, oily fish, chicken etc.

You need to add some of that in.

lazylinguist · 14/09/2021 12:38

I am trying to loose as much as possible as quickly as possible.

Bad idea. Really bad idea. Try reading "Why We Eat (Too Much)" by Andrew Jenkinson. If you are one of the fortunate women who have not spent their adult lives yo-yo dieting, then for goodness' sake keep it that way! The answer to your question is that hardly anyone does stick to diets long-term. They lose some weight, fall off the wagon, put it back on plus a bit more, repeat ad nauseam. If diets worked, nobody would have to do them more than once. Cut down as much as you can on sugar, wheat and processed foods, avoid vegetable oil except olive oil. Eat filling meals, don't leave yourself hungry, don't calorie count. Your weight will go down slowly and naturally.

SpeakingFranglais · 14/09/2021 12:38

This is neither a good nor sustainable way to lose weight.

I have a Fitbit, 10,500 steps and give miles a day minimum. Have it linked to My Fitness Pal and eat 1460 calories a day by logging everything. I usually lose 1.5 pounds a week give it take.

I’m 55, in a PT sedentary job and menopausal.

You need food!

JacketSpud55 · 14/09/2021 12:38

Chicken or egg I can do, no fish tho as I have a fish allergy.

3dogsnorth · 14/09/2021 12:39

Doesn't look like you are eating enough. It's not sustainable - yes you will lose weight but just put it back on. You should eat 3 meals a day with snacks so that you feel satisfied and less likely to go off the rails. This is not advertising but I follow a great program that is very sensible and I've lost weight on it. If you want details please PM me and I'll happily share!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 14/09/2021 12:39

Is there no other more suitable contraception you can explore?
Migraine or weight gain, screw that!
Eggs are your friend food wise.

Sally872 · 14/09/2021 12:42

For me

  1. Track calories. I have treats but carefully chosen. For me 1200 per day (I am short)
  2. drink plenty of water, helps me with hunger
  3. increase steps. I walk 7-8000 steps normally increase to 12-15000 when trying to lose weight. Also while out walking I am not snacking!

First few days hunger is worse then I seem to get used to it.

JacketSpud55 · 14/09/2021 12:43

Dh has had the snip recently, hopefully 6 more weeks and I will be longer need to take the pill. First sample is in 2 weeks time and then second sample 4 weeks later, I point blank refuse to take the risk before he gets the all clear.

OP posts:
JacketSpud55 · 14/09/2021 12:44

This is why I was trying to loose weight now as it will come off when I stop taking the pill and I don’t want to have to buy new clothes for that short amount of time.

OP posts:
Redgeraniums · 14/09/2021 12:45

I mean I would just not have sex for 6 weeks if it meant I lost a stone! It’s not exactly a long time

CyanideInTheFishPaste · 14/09/2021 12:45

Sounds like once DH's nethers are given the all clear and you can ditch the pill it will be lot easier.

SweatyBetty20 · 14/09/2021 12:46

After many, many, MANY diet failures and getting up to the horrid weight of 14st7 I am trying the Fast 800 and it’s working. I had one small garlic chicken breast, home made closelaw and a big beef tomato and one square of dark choc and I’m actually contentedly full. I’ll be hungry for tea, but not starving the way I usually am when I’ve had sandwiches for lunch.

Twotinydictators · 14/09/2021 12:56

Check out your TDEE so you know how many calories you need to eat to loose weight. I then work out a weeks allowance and mix this up over the week i.e. 1200 cals Mon to Thurs, 1700 on a Fri and 2000 Sat and Sun (equal to 500 cals a day). I find this works better for me and my body responds better to calories moving up and down rather than staying consistent.

With only a stone to loose, just take it slow. You need to find a new normal that will keep you at your ideal weight so work out what changes you need to make. Meals size too big? Meals too high in calories? Too many snacks? Snacks too calorie dense? Set a routine that you can stick too. I have fruit, yoghurt and chia seeds for breakfast, salads or fish & veg for lunch, a coffee and low cal treat for afternoon snack and a 500-700 cal dinner, always with veg. Nothing after dinner. I find I am happy with this pattern and its doable for me on daily basis. If you need something after dinner, move your snack to then, whatever works for you.

I have off days and don't expect perfection from myself. On the flip side, I know that I can't ever go back to how I was eating before. I genuinely no longer want to eat like that, I feel much better living my life like this.

I also do an average of 15k steps daily. Just fitting in moving more around my day rather than specific exercise.

Good luck Smile

Twotinydictators · 14/09/2021 12:57

*1500 cals a day

EatYourVegetables · 14/09/2021 12:59

Protein and fat to keep you full. Fuck carbs, avoid “massive salads”. Lots of water, sone salt. Lower your food intake gradually, not all at once. You get used to it after a few days. Don’t beat yourself up if you eat more / drink for one meal.
