Started induction process at 39 weeks ( babies size) Low risk. Had pessary in for 30 hours. There so busy I got sent home after the pessary didn't change anything. I'm waiting for a call to go in for my waters to be broken this all started Friday. Pessary out Saturday. We're now Tuesday. I feel like I should now just wait and see what my body does. How long can they leave you post pessary! Frustrated and on edge.

I’m not a midwife so I’m unsure how long they can leave you. I’m a neonatal nurse so just wanted you to know sometimes it’s not just about midwives/beds on the antenatal ward ect, I know where I work they hold off some inductions when the neonatal unit is full. It really depends on your risks/gestation/birth history ect. I know it’s frustration but sit tight at home, hopefully your body will take over and things will start naturally, which is much better for you and the baby.

Have you rang them to make sure they haven’t forgotten about you? Seems ridiculous that they’d be so keen to induce you, but then just leave you for 5 days without a care.

I’m a midwife. I’ve known some women who have had a “failed induction “, ie the pessary didn’t do anything who have gone gone home and just waited it out for labour to start naturally. So couple of weeks later.

Have they said if they can break your waters or not, actually physically reach them/cervix is open enough?

So they have said that I am dilated enough to have my waters broken. Its just a case of space on the delivery suit. There's no staff and apparently I chose the wrong time to get pregnant (obviously I just knew I would fall pregnant when I did) . I really feel for them, I'm a nurse I understand the pressure and how impossible it is. But I'm also incredibly frustrated if it's not this week as hubby has already taken a week off work thinking baby would be here. I've phoned this morning for a little more info receptionist basically said don't be surprised if it's Friday or later but is going to speak to the Co ordinator and will call back (that was 2 hours ago). I wasn't keen on the induction in the first place as limited evidence that it's the right choice for me. I do just feel like I should hand the reigns back to my body. Or do I consider ringing my community midwife for a sweep or do they do a second pessary session!?

Can your dh cancel his leave and go back to work and treat it as if you were waiting to go into labour naturally? So he leaves work when you ring him to say you're going in?

Sadly Sept is always bonkers busy and right now staffing as I'm sure you know is on it's knees. People leaving, people isolating, people not wanting to do extras. They can't induce you until they have someone to look after you but I get how shit it is.

Guess you could try asking for a sweep though if labour ward is so busy they don't have staff for you I'd be wanting to avoid a sweep to be honest.

Did they give you your Bishop's score? That should give some indication of whether induction is likely to work (and whether they'll be able to break your waters).

Teacupsandtoast · 14/09/2021 12:41

Are you in Aberdeen....this would be standard for them. You're low risk therefore bottom of the pile....await a 3am phone call to go in tonight I suspect! You can certainly call your comm mw for a chat

HariboAddict · 14/09/2021 12:43

Keep an eye on baby movements if they reduce they'll sort things out xx

HariboAddict · 14/09/2021 12:44

Obviously don't ring if they're not reduced xx
