Few details changed as this may potentially be outing.

I am a lone parent with 3 DC age 5,4 and 1.

Have just recently started a full time job - youngest is in nursery every day and older two both at after school club.

Financially I have stretched to my limit and I'm not sure it's viable to continue as, despite getting help towards childcare costs, I am still having to pay an additional £700 towards childcare costs.

Additionally, it is a low salaried data entry job which, although not difficult, means my work is completed after a few hours and they have said I need to speak with the TL to discuss other work I can potentially take on but they are now on annual leave for two weeks and no one else seems to have any suggestions as to what else I could be doing !

My housework has slipped massively, I am stillsuffering from PND and feel like I just want to quit as it feels All to much and I'm struggling to keep on top of housework as I can't seem to focus on it.

Long term, I feel its great for my children to see me working but I'm racked with guilt everytime I drop my youngest at nursery as he just screams when I leave and refuses naps whilst there and still frequently wakes in the night, I am beyond exhausted 😩

Anyway I'm rambling now, thankyou for reading, I am just at a loss as to what to do for the best

Are you getting any child maintenance? Any benefits? Would you qualify at least for Council Tax benefit?

Also are you getting any financial contributions from DC's dad?

Sounds really tough and I hope things get better.

Personally I would look for a part time job so that things are more manageable. Could you do some work at the weekends, does their dad have them ? If so that could potentially save on childcare costs whilst still earning some money.

In your position, I'd go part-time if possible. Full-time is too much with 3 very young children!
It'll be good for your future career prospects and CV and it will give you a life away from the kids, somewhat.

Could you ask this job about going PT?

GoWalkabout · 13/09/2021 21:19

Tell them that you can cover the current work but in part time hours and this works for you to decrease hours - they might go for it because it solves a problem for them (finding you more work).

Thankyou, I will definitely ask about going part time!

Yes I get child maintenance- I believe my help with council tax etc will all cease !

Discussed part time with them and was told in a nutshell no, and they want to increase the hours I am already doing!

Any suggestions of a good email I can send to say this doesn't work for me in the nicest possible way?
