To think that these job adverts are being unreasonable?

So I was browsing job ads, just out of interest, I have no plans on applying for these jobs but, am I being unreasonable to think that these ads are being unreasonable?

Both jobs are PA roles, they both offer 'flexible' working, some days from home and some days from the office which is in the boss' house, and apparently there will be some need to sometimes get to the office quickly, meaning that the applicant must live in central London and this is non negotiable. One job is part time paying circa £30k and one is full time paying £30k.

AIBU to think that the non negotiable must live in central London part of the ad is totally unreasonable and out of touch? In my head central London is like... zone 1? And if they require this they should be paying way more than £30k?

Supply and demand. If the jobs are unreasonable they won't be filled. But they are likely to suit someone.
I'd be more concerned about the legal/ tax implications of being 'self employed' but only having one boss. That's frowned upon these days.

Presumably it’s a PA for an UHNW/HNW with flexibility like that required. I have done it but was provided accommodation (own house, bills paid) and £30k for 20 hours per week. I don’t do it now I have children because I can’t be that flexible. It was a drop everything type of deal if they needed something. I was in my mid twenties at the time and pretty happy with the arrangement.
@Xenia would your au pair be able to drop things and run off though? Most students would struggle with that as well. It's this expectation that you'll drop your life in Central London and run off to help a "successful artist" (whatever that means) by popping chilled champagne / milk / cheese in the fridge because the poor wee mite has been travelling and is a "perfectionist who is very organised". But only get paid £20/hr, be SE and no guarantee of hours. Weird.
Art students, humanities students, 3rd year students, have very few contact hours for some courses
Mine was only 8h per week for my 2nd and 3rd years
It’s a bit of pocket money each week for half the hours of working in a bar on min wage

Not really, I've had PA jobs like that before ( usually high net worth individuals if they are being that demanding) and I stopped doing them when I moved out to a commuter area. There are PA jobs... and then there are PA jobs.

@SpeedRunParent for that pay though?

Thinking about Lynne from Alan Partridge.

Covered in the unemployment thread recently about employers still being too picky and unrealistic. About time people calling this out

Thus is a job for someone who doesn't need to work but wants to do something useful here and there.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/09/2021 08:06

It's also unreasonable because it's on a self employed basis when the job description wouldn't pass the HMRC self employment test.

Sounds like they should employ a proper full time PA and then contract additional help from a virtual PA if there is occasionally too much work for one person to handle.

I also suspect that the person will be anything but 'a joy to work for' and will have the 'part time' PA running round servicing all sorts of ridiculous requests like sorting their books by colour, schelping across London to find some must have item that is sold out everywhere but might be available in an obscure store miles away or searching round whichever neighbour their parcels got left at when the 'while you were out card' is unreadable.
