To quit my job?

Minor problem but interested in opinions

I am currently:
Working part time
doing a full time course to retrain - in final year
Masses of coursework , reports etc this year with 1 major piece of coursework towards the end.
Placements through my course (blocks of 4 weeks full time at different intervals throughout the year)
Volunteering 1 day per week to help with CV once qualified as industry can be hard to get a job in
And 4 kids, 2 of whom are under 5.

Feel like I have no time to myself to clean or exercise and while I am currently managing everything it is all just "fine" and nothing on the list is being done to the best of my ability and worried my marks might start to reflect this.

My OH is luckily very supportive and says he will support us, and to leave my job (while I like the actual job ok, I dislike the company, but that's a whole other thread). Relevant as he knows I feel unappreciated and job can be stressful. We could afford this but it we would have to be very very careful with spending and cutback but fine for short- term.

I am worried that when I finish my course it could take me ages to find a job whereas if I stay I have this job to tide us over until I do. This is probably my main concern about quitting. OH says to have more faith in my ability to get a job but he doesn't have a crystal ball. I feel exhausted and grumpy trying to juggle everything. So

YABU - quit and focus on course and voluntary work in this area, and your children as that is what's important just now

YANBU- stay and struggle through for the year so you have some work at the end of your course until you get a new role

I’m also retraining, working 0.8 FTE, only have one child and not doing the volunteering day, and I DREAM of being able to afford to quit/winning the lottery/something, anything changing so I can throw myself at the career change but also find time to sleep/exercise/breathe.

You’re a superhero and also omg, quit if you’ve got the chance and the numbers work out. It’s not like you’re quitting for nothing; you’re working towards a new thing. And yes jobs in your new thing may be hard to come by but you could theoretically get something else to tide you over after your course finishes if a job in the new industry doesn’t materialise quickly enough.

@burritofan thanks- it is exhausting isn't it. Just trying to look long term in the hope it will all be worth it! Good luck with your studies

Christ, you’re doing all that?! That’s incredible, you must be working your socks off. If you can afford it then yes I would drop whatever is most droppable to get yourself through this academic year.

What are you retraining as? What makes you think it might not be easy to get a job?

ThinWomansBrain · 13/09/2021 18:17

Maybe it's a question of what looks best on your CV - continued emplyment, or relevant volunteering.

I was a bit Hmm until I read the four kids bit! Wow!

I don't know how you manage that OP, credit to you. I think if you can just about manage with your husband's wage then I'd quit.
