So another totally stressful morning trying to get DS to his football match. I studied the route before I went, I wrote it all out from google maps. I had my phone. But still got totally lost and in the end had to abandon the match and come home.

I feel like such an effing failure. Google maps always glitches on my phone when it's in the car. There was a sat nav in the car but it's not working. I need to 'up my game and get sorted. I seem to be the only person who cant find the football games :( I'm so stressed about it. I've looked up sat navs but they seem so dear, so I'm wondering is anyone like me, useless at directions, who has gotten one that works?

It's got to the point where I'm thinking I will go and suss out the away games the day before. It was nearly an hour's drive away, (each way) but I can't risk not finding the match again.

You mentioned that Google maps isn't keeping up with you position when you drive? It may be that the calibration is off... it's happened to me before so you get every instruction long after you've already passed the turning.

If that's what it is you can reset it. The link below explains how to do it on an android phone which is how I managed to fix mine.

It sounds like you don't have the GPS turned on on your phone. Either that or your phone is a bit rubbish (sorry). I've been using GoogleMaps for years and the only problem I have is when using it on a phone that's not up to it. There won't be any "clash" with your other satnav they don't have anything to do with each other. Different Apps like Waze won't be any better if the issue is with your phone. You may just need to go into settings on your phone and check that GPS is enabled. Otherwise, it looks like you need a new phone or a new satnav. In all honesty, I'd go for the new phone because having Google Maps, when it works, is better and more up to date than any satnav you can buy.

How old is your phone?

I have one of the magnetic holders and a plate on the back of my phone case. It sits on the vent and is easy to see but doesn't block the windscreen at all.
