It’s unsportsmanlike, IMO

Also women should start refusing to participate in any games where this is allowed. If enough women boycott these sports the organisers will realise they must change these totally unfair rules and bring in a different category for transgender athletes.

DismantledKing · 12/09/2021 14:03

I think it’s in the correct forum i am seeking opinion from others to see if I am BU to think this event should not be allowed in televised sport.

Don’t get me wrong; I think it should be in AIBU. It’s just that MN likes to put anything about issues like this elsewhere.

No they should not. For athletes, this is their full time job, what they have trained their entire lives for - why should they render themselves poorer and lessening their career opportunities?

I think female athletes are between a rock and a hard place here. If they boycott they risk sponsorship, opportunities to compete etc. They can even be penalised if they refuse to share the podium or not smile in photos.

Traditionally any woman athlete who in the past has complained about the East German dope cheats, the unfairness of allowing male DSD athletes to compete in middle distance running( no longer allowed) and the inclusion of transwomen, have all been treated as " sore losers" and been vilified for it.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/09/2021 14:27

Of course it's unsportsperson like. Sane, sentient humans do not make a sport out of punching each other in a ring whilst others cheer. Regardless of sex or gender. It is a foul and heinous pastime akin to bear baiting and dog fighting imo.

itsgettingwierd · 12/09/2021 14:34

Of course it's wrong.

Sports categories are actually male and female. Based on sex. They don't allow woman with raised testosterone to race in certain running distances.

Yet allow a biological male who developed as a male fight as female because they state they identify as female.

Even if they have lower testosterone levels at that point it doesn't change anything.

334bu · 12/09/2021 14:35

Absolutely agree Roses and in this case made ten times worse by making a woman fight someone of the opposite sex.

FOJN · 12/09/2021 14:46

Male violence against women is now so mainstream it's a spectator sport.

Haven't you received the memo? It's progressive and you're a transphobic bigot! (heavy sarcasm alert)

Beautifully put.

That video is shocking. How can people can watch footage like that and not get a sick feeling in their gut? How can they continue to argue that the whole TWAW mantra is not harmful to women??

Sexnotgender · 12/09/2021 20:43

Surprised this thread has lasted so long!

Of course it’s not ok. It’s frankly unbelievable that anyone thinks it is.

This is exactly I feel too - I can’t believe it was even televised and advertised as an event to watch and people actually paid or tuned it to watch.

And female athletes totally do need to take a stand if they want this sort of thing to stop, even if that means they suffer. Suffering when you protest for your rights is pretty standard (look at the women in Afghanistan now, or the American civil rights movement). If they dont think this is worth protesting then no one else will.

Fallingirl · 12/09/2021 22:04

All the evidence is now available, showing clearly that anyone who has been through male puberty has permanent advantages over females. There is no need to even discuss this anymore, and it is not a complex issue.

It is just straight up male supremacy; some men want to compete with women, and because the want it, they are given it. It is preposterous.

Hattie765 · 12/09/2021 22:17

It's all the bloody men saying what a complicated situation it is that make my blood boil. It's not complicated at all, sport is divided by sex for a reason and males have no right to compete against women especially in contact sports. That is not difficult to understand.

FrippEnos · 12/09/2021 22:19

Its not just all the "bloody men" its all the "bloody" women too.

It's only complicated if you think women don't have a right to say 'no' to entitled males.

Which tells you something about those who say it's complicated.

It’s not difficult to understand. Until a few years ago, it became suddenly all too difficult to understand properly…

I'm not sure why people didn't realise things like this would be the logical conclusion. Or why the women supporting this, despite their life experiences, felt that
no males would ever exploit the situation to the detriment of women and girls everywhere.

This.

It’s not complicated. Why all of a sudden is it suddenly complicated? No, men should not be hitting women full force in the face in the name of contact sport.

To anybody that supports this: I would ask if they had a daughter,‘would they be open to her competing in a fighting match against a biological male? And if not, then why they think it okay for another woman to compete against a biological male in a fighting match?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/09/2021 11:13

cardibach · 13/09/2021 11:24

I get angry when you get people saying that trans women should still have a right to compete. They do. They can compete in the male divisions. After taking hormones they won’t win, granted, but nobody can have everything. Choices have consequences. They need to decide whether they want to be women more or sports champions - the body they have chosen may not be able to deliver some of the things they would like. Well, neither does mine.
