Apparently we can pack the night before we leave for a cycling and camping trip in Wales with a toddler. 😳

(Yes, IABU for camping in Wales in September with a turdler, but is HE BU?)

Well you can.

But you won’t be finished by midnight and you might not be speaking to each other for the drive…

Soubriquet · 11/09/2021 16:45

Well technically you can. But whether
you remember to pack everything you need is another thing

iklboo · 11/09/2021 16:50

I could pack the night before, but it would include a lot of lists.

I don't think I'd trust DH to pack 😄

pinkyredrose · 11/09/2021 16:52

But YANBU re partner. I try to pick my battles in a relationship and not micromanage, but I have spent so many days going “the time is X, we have to leave at Y time, this leaves Y-X hours, we have Z things to do, and you’re pissing about with non urgent tasks” that your post triggering travel anxiety in me.

Also cycling and camping with a turdler in September????? Shock YABU there!!

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 11/09/2021 17:15

Pack your own stuff and half of dc's... He can finish off on the morning...

Ifyoudontlikeitdosomethingelse · 11/09/2021 17:16

I always pack the night before and I have 3 young kids and a dog... What else are you supposed to do? What am I doing wrong?! Blush

ufucoffee · 11/09/2021 17:20

I always pack the night before. Can't see the point of doing it any earlier. Plus if your husband will be doing the camping gear it will be even easier

imnottoofussed · 11/09/2021 17:24

Do you mean pack the car? I probably wouldn't in case it got broken into but I can't see why you can't get everything ready and in bags etc prepared to just put in the car the following day.

HurryUpAndWait23 · 11/09/2021 17:26

Turdler, snapped and farted, eyebrowless.

Boring.

girlmom21 · 11/09/2021 17:27

When were you planning on packing? Is the night before not a standard thing?

GTAlogic · 11/09/2021 17:29

Easily done! Surely with both of you packing your stuff, with a list so you don't forget anything, won't take that long?

VaricoseVera · 11/09/2021 17:30

I'd pack the night before too, armed with a list I'd started a week or two before 🤷🏼‍♀️

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/09/2021 17:35

When a special hell is invented for me, it will involve camping in Wales in September with a toddler, and then add cycling.

However, having travelled all over the world on business and pleasure, I pack like a ninja. I could pack for a month away in two hours.

DappledThings · 11/09/2021 17:40

I don't see the problem.

CookPassBabtridge · 11/09/2021 17:44

I always pack the day before a trip Confused

DeepaBeesKit · 11/09/2021 17:45

Can this go in classics purely on grounds that turdler is clearly going to be a new mumsnetism

Tlollj · 11/09/2021 17:48

I can’t even do the snappy finger thing @MrsTerryPratchett let alone pack the night before. I’d have lists about lists

Joystir59 · 11/09/2021 17:50

Turdler! Definition: turf ejecting human infant.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/09/2021 17:54

@Tlollj

I can’t even do the snappy finger thing *@MrsTerryPratchett* let alone pack the night before. I’d have lists about lists
It's an ADHD superpower. We can't make lists. Well, we can but then we ignore them or get distracted halfway through.
DDiva · 11/09/2021 18:03

Clothes and toiletries yes but surely you need to get out the camping stuff out in advance just to make sure you can locate everything and it works/isn't damaged. Also food assuming you're taking most of it, just dont unpack it.

ForensicFlossy · 11/09/2021 18:10

How far in advance do others pack? I'd make sure certain clothes aren't worn in the few days before but I wouldn't pack until the day before.

cheeseisnice · 11/09/2021 18:20

I don't camp these days sadly, but I used to get up at 6am. I'd get us all dressed (me and two small kids back then) and ready to go, the housework done and all the packing to be on the road by 10am. I found it much easier this way than packing beforehand.

Changeychangey1234 · 11/09/2021 18:24

@MrsTerryPratchett I can pack for a road trip across Europe for a month, living in a van for 2 adults riding bikes downhill in about 2 hrs... but the toddler has stumped me Grin

It's our first ever camping / van / bike trip with a kid (lockdown 1 baby). I'm shitting myself we'll forget something important and it'll be a miserable disaster Blush

Husband struggles to pack enough pants for a weekend away @GTAlogic, let alone tent poles Wink or whatever... (maybe I should ltb Wink ) He will be at work until 8pm every night from Monday until the night before we leave at 6am, so this weekend is our only chance to find all the crap we need from the garage unless we want to be packing at midnight in the dark.

@Ifyoudontlikeitdosomethingelse you're an actual superhero! @SilenceOfThePrams nail on the head Grin

I’ve never packed before the night before (sometimes on the morning - very early). Won’t you be tripping over bags/ not remember what is packed and have to take it all out again?
