Aibu to wonder if this eating habit is weird?

Would you class it as strange for someone to eat their food by ensuring they have a little bit of everything each bite? This is only for hot meals, not for things like dessert or sandwiches. They also make sure as they eat a hot meal, that as they finish, they have a bit of everything. Pic attached.

YABU: yes this is odd.
YANBU: normal, loads of people do this.

I thought that's how most people eat?

PickAChew · 11/09/2021 13:14

Greg Wallace does it!

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2021 13:15

I'd say that was normal.

Notimeforaname · 11/09/2021 13:15

Yeah no big deal

Boysofsummerhavegone · 11/09/2021 13:15

My mum had always done this and I thought it was very weird. Now as I’m getting older I’m increasingly doing it myself! 😄🤦‍♀️

Poppins2016 · 11/09/2021 13:17

I'd wonder whether it's personal choice, taste preferences, or an obsessive/compulsive thing?

I personally enjoy the variety of tasting different flavours on their own, only mixing if I think they'll be a nice combination. I wouldn't enjoy the 'taste overload' of lots of different things in one bite...

Bedsheets4knickers · 11/09/2021 13:18

I do this with certain parts of a roast dinner

SantanaBinLorry · 11/09/2021 13:19

I kinda do that, but just in a normal eating your meal way; a little bit of everything/mixture on your fork. I dont make a display over the last remaining bites though.

ConsulTremas · 11/09/2021 13:22

Normal isn’t it? Nothing to see here.

TomDaleysCardigan · 11/09/2021 13:25

What on earth is that?

WomanStanleyWoman · 11/09/2021 13:26

A friend of mine does the opposite and won’t even switch between foods from bite to bite. Say she’s eating a McDonalds: she will eat her burger, eat her chips, then drink her drink. Now that’s weird.

LaMadrilena · 11/09/2021 13:29

My mum does this. I always thought it was daft - every mouthful the same - but apparently it's not as weird as I thought!

Singingtherapy · 11/09/2021 13:31

You mean they actually construct little groupings comprising a bite of each item? Very very odd!

MrsRubyMonday · 11/09/2021 13:41

Pretty normal for me, I rarely have a bite of just one part of a meal and automatically keep everything pretty even as I plate up and eat. Towards the end if I have for example a piece of chicken, mash and peas I will split the chicken into bite size portions, split the mash and peas equally between them to make sure I have enough and save the best looking mouthful until last (the pointy end of a chicken breast is my favourite bit). It's not something that affects anyone else and it's how I like to eat so I pay it no thought.

Stonerosie67 · 11/09/2021 13:44

The way that cutlery is slung on the plate is more unreasonable....

BashfulClam · 11/09/2021 13:46

@WomanStanleyWoman I do that. I eat each item in turn starting with my least favourite so I end with the best bit. No mixing, no foods touching…

CallMeRisley · 11/09/2021 13:49

I don’t like it, but I thought that I was the unusual one for not doing it. I’ve been called a picky eater for liking things separate on my plate or for eating all of one thing then all of another and so on. I thought the norm was to get a forkful of everything or if not everything, at least a mixture.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 11/09/2021 13:51

I used to get irrationally annoyed when my mum did this.
I do it sometimes, now, maybe with a roast, have a bit of meat and some potato or yorkie, but usually I eat a bit of thing at a time, etc mouthful of sweet potato, mouthful of salmon.
When I am mixing a forkful of a meal I don't need to include a bit of everything, eg include peas and carrots and gravy and condiments. That would be quite obsessive.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 11/09/2021 13:53

Pretty normal. Conversely, it irritated my parents when I ate my meals sequentially.

Letsplough · 11/09/2021 13:54

I do not do this. When I was a kid it was only one item of food on my fork. Now I'm an adult I can manage two different foods at once but I certainly won't save a bit of everything to finish on.

FlowerArranger · 11/09/2021 13:54

I couldn't care less....... but whatever that is in the photo Shock
Is revolting...

DustyMaiden · 11/09/2021 13:55

Normal DSIL eats one thing at a time, it is very strange.

cantbeforeal · 11/09/2021 13:55

Normal

Tlollj · 11/09/2021 13:55

I eat things one at a time. Depends what I’m having but if I’ve got mash I start there.

Dozer · 11/09/2021 13:55

WTF is the horrible picture of?
