Basically as above. There are 4 teams in my work and the team above mine is looking for 4/5 new staff.
Everyone in my team likely expect me to go for it but I don't think I really want to.
The payrise is roughly 100 a month at their bottom point rising to 200 once you get to the top, not sure if the progressive pay is performance based or just standard increments.
From starting in this place I think the work they do is probably too much stress for what the payrise is worth. They're frequently chasing their tail, whereas where I am is pretty stress free.
Truthfully, I also have no real desire to progress within this company and have looked at external roles including once for which I'd be taking a pay cut but would have better future prospects. There is little room for progression anyway.

Do you think I'm daft to not even consider it? It is open company wide as well as to external candidates. Thanks! Smile

Nope, YANBU. Your reasoning is really clear. And if everyone is expecting you (and perhaps some team leaders are wanting you to?) hopefully your abstinence from applying will get team leaders to reflect on why you haven’t applied.

If you're not excited abiout the job the only reason to go for it would be if the pay rise makes a big difference to you and it doesn't sound like it does.

Depends if it would get you a more impressive job title for within your industry - even a few months at a more senior level with a 'better' job title can help you get higher level jobs elsewhere.

£100 a month isn’t enough of a pay increase if you aren’t going to enjoy the job. If you are also looking at other jobs and considering taking a pay cut, my personal view is that you don’t want to increase your pay too much as you’ll miss it more when you take a pay cut. I would say the only exception to that is that it’s a big pay jump and you can add it all to savings to boost them before taking a pay cut.

No if you don’t fancy it, don’t apply for it.

£100 a month is not a lot if it's going to bring the extra stress too.

Yes, a promotion will usually always bring more responsibility, but the extra stress isn't always worth the additional pay.

You need to do what's best for you, and if that means staying where you are, or looking externally, then that's what you've got to do :)

Doesn’t sound as though it’s worth it for £100 or even £200 pcm extra.
