Not to go to the christening?

I'm at a friend of a friends daughters christening on Saturday and I'm really not feeling great.
I'm loaded with cold and feel dreadful.
Red hot,sneezing,really bad cough.
I've done a covid lateral flow and it's negative.
So it's just a cold

I told friend and she told me to just come as it's just a cold but I'm unsure

Aibu not to go?
I already have a gift so I will give them that regardless
I'm just not sure how appropriate it is to go given the covid situation (and how worried people might be) if I'm coughing my head off in the corner.

Don't go. I missed a christening as I was ill, I don't regret it and the mum understood. Why get others sick? It's just rude and inconsiderate to go out and about when you're sick unless necessary.
You should take a PCR, you have symptoms so a lat flow is no use.

zenthoughtsonlythanks · 09/09/2021 08:03

You really shouldn't go, if there are going to be infants and the elderly there. Totally unfair to the rest of the people attending.

You also need a PCR. Covid has changed and with it the symptoms. If you have been double jabbed it is likely to be a mild form (for you at least) Decline politely saying you feel too unwell to come, and wish her a lovely day.

louisebreann · 09/09/2021 08:04

Okay thanks everyone I will get a pcr test just to be sure.
I won't go either,like I said it doesn't feel appropriate.

YANBU to stay away if you aren't feeling well. No one will thank you for spreading your germs, even if it's 'just' a cold. Stay home and rest.

reluctantbrit · 09/09/2021 08:17

It doesn't matter if it may be covid or not, I wouldn't appreciate a guest coming with huge cold symptoms and spreading them.

I would stay at home, rest and drop off the gift and congratulations when I feel better.

@louisebreann

Its deffo a cold. Like i say the lateral flow is negative and I've had many a cold to know what it feels like.
FFS. How many more years of a global pandemic do we need before people understand the basics.
louisebreann · 09/09/2021 08:23

I do think people have forgot colds exist.
Just because covid is around doesn't mean people have stopped catching a cold.

Ffs !!

Cold symptoms are the main symptoms of the delta variant. My kids had normal cold symptoms. Its unfair to go anywhere feeling red hot and with a cough if you havent got a pcr. Lateral flow tests are to pick up asymptomatic cases

There is a strong probability it is a cold. But there is a chance it's covid and could kill a relative who has turned up for the christening.
Newbie8365 · 09/09/2021 09:17

Even if it does turn out to be just a cold you should stay at home. No one wants your germs. No one wants to catch it and be ill.

I agree. The common cold hasn't just gone away. I'd stay away from the christening because a head cold makes me feel shit.

I can't believe you had to ask randoms on the internet, of course you shouldn't go.

I wouldn't go regardless of the Covid situation, I wouldn't want to give people a bad cold. I think it would be extra annoying of you to go if you don't actually know the people that well so they aren't desperate for you to be there. I would bow out assuming you aren't better.
Dogscanteatonions · 09/09/2021 09:36

No wants wants your body child even if you don't have covid ( which you may well have!)

Can't believe you even have to ask

Dogscanteatonions · 09/09/2021 09:36

Ffs bloody cold

EatYourVegetables · 09/09/2021 09:49

PCR!! And don’t go.

Why is that so hard to understand, 18 months in.

blubberyboo · 09/09/2021 10:41

Lateral flows are not suitable for people with symptoms. They are only meant to be used by people with no symptoms as part of regular testing.
You must get a PCR as part of advise.

But even if not covid you shouldn’t carry cold germs to a place with many people and a baby present. As people have had enough disruption to life without having to test themselves or be sick after they catch a cold as well.

millenialblush · 09/09/2021 10:43

I wouldn't go to a christening because they're boring AF and not really events for friends of friends.

Nobody has forgotten colds exist. We're saying that it might be a cold, but it also might be covid. Delta in the vaccinated can be indistinguishable from a cold and you do not know that it is just a cold.
