Pregnancy- feeling babies movements

Hiya. Just had my 24 week appointment with my Midwife. And she was asking about babies movements and said he should be forming a more regular pattern by 26 weeks if not I need to go in for monitoring. So far everything is fine he kicks and nudges. But obviously kinda scared now 😳😳

What are you scared of? Am I missing something?

Arghlife · 08/09/2021 14:23

It could be something simple...I'm only 23 weeks and I've just started to notice that he moves more in the morning and evening when I'm lying in bed. Not sure if that counts as an actual routine or not though

loudsoph98 · 08/09/2021 15:05

@Arghlife I only started feeling baby move more in last few weeks aswell

@WheelieBinPrincess Just kinda thought this would be his pattern now. But maybe not. It’s all scary aswell especially as this is my first pregnancy

I've had two full term pregnancies and neither had a "regular pattern". As long as you're comfortable with the amount baby's moving you'll be fine and if you're ever worried it's best to get checked out Smile

MajorNeville · 08/09/2021 15:10

I didn't feel baby until 22-23 weeks and they were never in a pattern. I'm a hit confused emotionally why you'd be scared when everything is going to plan.

MajorNeville · 08/09/2021 15:11

Not sure where the word 'emotionally' came from, lol

@girlmom21Thank you 😽x

Just cos me and my partner were thinking ooh he’s moving a lot at the moment then was kinda like oh there should be a pattern!!

CBB2021 · 08/09/2021 15:13

OP, I had terrible anxiety with my firsts movements and the midwives were never really clear about what a pattern meant! I said I don’t think she has a patters and they said well maybe that’s her pattern?!

Take the time each day to get to know baby’s movements and take it from there. And whatever happens if you’re ever worried, just go and get checked out Smile

loudsoph98 · 08/09/2021 15:19

@CBB2021 Not gonna lie I thought how can he have a pattern all babies are different!!

I promise you you will know if they aren't right, or if you're not sure. You might not be able to write down the pattern in a 24 hour period but you'll subconsciously notice if things are different.

For example, I know with both of mine they've tended to be quiet in the morning but have a bit of a wriggle when I have a shower. If I have something sugary mid morning that usually gets a bit of a wriggle going again and then into the afternoon I get some fidgeting. But both of them have been most active after dinner and towards bedtime so I know if that doesn't happen I need to be keeping more of a close watch on things.

They do say as well if you're not sure you can have a cold and/or sugary drink and lie on your left side for an hour and concentrate on what you can feel.

It depends where your placenta is too, my was at front with first baby so there were times I went in with RFM as the placenta was actually cushioning her normal movements due to her position. With this one the placenta is at the back so I feel every little thing as she's right at the front with only a bit of fat and muscle between me and her 😂, but that does mean that I would notice very quickly if there were any changes in her movement too.

So my advice would be try to notice but don't feel that you have to be working to a schedule yet, and do work out what things make your baby move a bit more in case you need to try that to reassure yourself (I recommend full fat coke, has made both of mine go bonkers very quickly!).

loudsoph98 · 08/09/2021 15:41

@8dpwoah Ahh thank you so much!!!! I find first drink of the morning he wriggles and is active. Then if I wanna go back to sleep it’s impossible. And after a big meal too he’s wriggling about. He’s a bit of a nudger aswell 😂😂 Usually a cold drink gets him moving quickly. So maybe this is his routine!!

I was told from 28 weeks there would be a more regular pattern...

My son and this baby were/are pretty big wrigglers but they have their own patterns, you just get to know it :) This baby has a mega wriggle around 11am then 2pm and then from about 9pm ALL NIGHT with just little nudges here and there in between

I get that you need to monitor movements but I do think the 'kick counting' can cause major anxiety!

loudsoph98 · 08/09/2021 15:53

@Amz6219 Been told to not kick count!!!!

You will start to figure out things like does having a cold drink or a bar of chocolate make them wriggle more? My baby definitely dances when I've had chocolate! And they often wriggle more when you're still - the movement of you walking can relax them and then they get more alert when you're trying to sleep (when they also like to jump on your bladder!)

loudsoph98 · 08/09/2021 16:02

@bakingdemon He definitely likes jumping on my bladder 😭😭
