To think this is fucked up (school 100% attendance)

Recieved this letter from school before the start of term tomorrow.

I have a lovely, well behaved and studious year 8 girl who would love to attend 100%. However she had a bowel condition that causes extreme pain 2-3 days per month, enough so that she is unable to attend school.

Unfortunately she doesn't have the "resilience" needed to get these rewards.

Utter twats.

what an absolute pile of shite

" must be worn and displayed at all times"

Fuck Off

TheOneWithTwoParties · 07/09/2021 16:36

Attendance awards are discriminatory and bullshit.

Apparentlystillchilled · 07/09/2021 16:37

That is really awful

redastherose · 07/09/2021 16:37

Can't see the letter unfortunately, schools like other large organisations have auto generated letters which are produced on statistics so it is unlikely to be personal. It is unfair when your child is ruled out of something through no fault of their own.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 07/09/2021 16:38

It's not rewarding their "resilience" though, just sheer luck that they haven't caught anything! Hmm

Piggy42 · 07/09/2021 16:38

@TheOneWithTwoParties

Attendance awards are discriminatory and bullshit.
Absolutely this. They’re discriminating against all children without perfect health.
Merryoldgoat · 07/09/2021 16:39

They’re fucking ridiculous.

redastherose · 07/09/2021 16:39

Oh I can see it now, it is a load of old tripe. How awful to discriminate against someone who may have had to take days off for illness especially after the last 18 months we've had!

Clymene · 07/09/2021 16:40

Fuck that. Absolutely disgraceful. I would complain to the governors that it discriminates against children with SEND

HumphreyCobblers · 07/09/2021 16:40

They would be better named ‘perfect health/no disability’ awards.

Well done chaps Hmm

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 07/09/2021 16:40

Presenteeism. They’re internalising capitalism from toddlerhood.

Stokey · 07/09/2021 16:40

Yeah it's bollocks. It's all based on Ofsted who set it as one of their goals. Completely discriminates against kids that have health issues.

Clymene · 07/09/2021 16:41

And at a time when Covid cases are going through the roof, it seems particularly unwise to encourage children to come to school when they're unwell

Thatsjustwhatithink · 07/09/2021 16:41

Just to give the other side, to the kids that may not have great home lives, plug their way through school, this can feel like a reward- like someone has recognised them. Especially if they're the kids no one really notices.

It's obviously sad for your daughter but there's a reason she can't make it in each day. But she shows resilience in different ways.

Not all prizes/rewards are for everyone. You'd be surprised how many nice people out there create these type of rewards for kids that aren't getting 'top of maths' or 'best at running'

Tooshytoshine · 07/09/2021 16:41

Sigh.

This is shit. I am sorry that some twerp has come up with this and it hasn't been properly equality impact assessed. Schools are meant to be doing post covid work on mental health and self care, and for students like your daughter with a disabling condition this is poor practice.

I would be writing a polite but firm email about equality, disadvantage and fuckwittery.

ChocolateCakeYum · 07/09/2021 16:41

My sons school has something similar. It’s bullshit, he has chronic chest infections and so never gets 100%. They should reward his resilience for getting through the school year but they don’t see it like that. It’s total nonsense.

PinkFootstool · 07/09/2021 16:42

Ask about the reasonable adjustments for disabled children.

Twats.

JudgeRindersMinder · 07/09/2021 16:42

Utter bollocks. I’d be asking where their equality impact assessment was

Stompythedinosaur · 07/09/2021 16:42

That is awful and I would raise with the school that it is discriminating against your dd for a medical issue.

Also a surefire way to get dc coming in with covid symptoms.

greensnail · 07/09/2021 16:43

That's ridiculous! Having to hand your badge back after you're off sick, what a way to welcome a child back to school when they've been unwell, or bereaved, or whatever other issues they have in their life that prevent them from attending school.

SpringSparrow · 07/09/2021 16:43

That is really awful, penalising children for being sick and taking the pin badges away from children, when they fall below 100%! Is this a high school or a primary school?

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/09/2021 16:43

They should rename it a " congratulations you are healthy" badge.

Its luck. Pure and simple. And those desperate to earn their badge are probably the ones spreading the stomach bugs that cost everyone else their badges.

MissDollyMix · 07/09/2021 16:43

Wtaf?? Didn’t they notice that we’re in the middle of a pandemic? Should have told the 130,000 who died that they should have been more ‘resilient’. What an absolute load of bollocks!

Brollypackedforscottishholiday · 07/09/2021 16:44

Ime schools are oblivious to the individual needs.
Ds often got detention for falling asleep..
He has ME..
Once got called lazy and that he was holding other pupils up on a hike to an activity..
That was a treat for excelling at school
.
Bonkers.
