To think Clark’s shoes aren’t the same size as any other shop?

DC was measured as a 9.5F in Clarks but they didn’t have any white trainers in stock in that size. So I ordered 9.5F trainers from Next. They are enormous! Then I ordered a 9.5 from Schuh which is also enormous. Are Clark’s sizes just wrong?! It’s costing me a fortune in returns. Clark’s is adamant that 9.5F is the correct size for my child.

They specifically told us they were different last time the kids were measured

elephantstrong · 07/09/2021 15:27

Clarks are normally half a size smaller in their measurements than supermarkets etc.

So a Clarks 5.5 is another shop 6 etc.

didihearthatright123456 · 07/09/2021 15:27

yup I've found this too! I have 2 year old twins, wondered into Clarks only to be confronted by £45 for a pair of size 4.5F boots

WTF - I don't spend that on boots for myself and they'd last a coupe of years rather than a couple of months.

But yes it does make buying shoes in more reasonably priced stores a bit of a nightmare.

SheABitSpicyToday · 07/09/2021 15:28

This is why I always get mine measured at Schuh

modgepodge · 07/09/2021 15:39

If you want to buy shoes from a different shop, why not get the child’s feet measured at that shop?

WellTidy · 07/09/2021 15:42

I'd only ever bought shoes and trainers for 12yo DS from Clarks, and he was measured as a 5.5H a couple of weeks ago. He needed rugby boots for school, so DH took him to Sports Direct at the weekend. He needed a 7, but wasn't far off an 8.

Talipesmum · 07/09/2021 15:42

Did you try any of that size on at all in Clarks? I sometimes find they just don’t measure very well - they’ll say “it’s x size” and when you try a few on in that size, it’s clear you need a different one. So even if they don’t have the ones I want in the right size, I always get them to try on similar ones or the adjacent sizes, just to check with reality.

Seeline · 07/09/2021 15:43

When my DS was borderline between child and adult sizes, they said that he would have to measured in the adult department for adult shoes as they were different.

Talipesmum · 07/09/2021 15:43

Oh, and mine have very wide feet and always need about 2 sizes bigger in football / rugby boots than in “normal” shoes.

Boomkin · 07/09/2021 15:45

I used a tape measure and it looks like the correct size is 7.5. So Clark’s are massively out by two entire sizes. It’s infuriating.

Because cheap shops don’t offer foot measuring services. And I was going to buy from Clark’s actually but I wanted white trainers and they were out of stock in size 9.5.

Even different shoe styles in Clarks don't come up the same size. We gave up shopping in there years ago when one of my kids measured an 11e but the trainer that actually fitted was a 9.5H.

Dogdaystrouble · 07/09/2021 15:49

Clarks sizes are a law to their own, even their own sizes vary by style.
my DC last Dec was measured as 12.5d (but no D's so to buy an e fitting) but anyway the shoes that she wanted she had to have size 13 as they fit better than 12.5.
She grew out of those and so got her some size 1 trainers (karrimor brand) over summer that fit her perfectly.
Went to get her feet measured in August. Measured as 12.5e, and the shoes she wanted the size 12.5e fit her with growing room!!!! So she came out with shoes in a smaller size than she's already grown out of Hmm

Like....I have no idea what is going on with Clarks sizings!!!!

Blendabrethin · 07/09/2021 15:52

Clarks can't measure feet for shit. In favt, this year, tjey measured my 7 year olds feet a whole size smaller than they measured them last year. Apparently her feet had shrunk from a size 1 to a 13 😏

I don't think that it helped that they measured her sitting down with her foot up at a 45 degree angle.

Pumpkinstace · 07/09/2021 15:53

Yup.

One DC size 11 in Clarks, 12 everywhere else.

Other size 12.5 in Clarks, size 2 everywhere else

Porcupineintherough · 07/09/2021 15:55

My ds has shoes ranging in size from 9 to 11.5 - all of which fit and none of which are Clarkes. If you think they are bad then never, ever let your child take up dancing

SunbathingDragon · 07/09/2021 15:55

Isn’t it to do with how Clarks and other shops round EU sizing? So Clarks round down and other shops tend to round up to get the U.K. sizing.

Fastforwardtospring · 07/09/2021 15:57

We buy Clarke’s shoes from an independent who also sells other makes, Clarkes shoes last much longer as they will fit them with growing room, I’m sure Clarkes fit & sell them without so give it a couple months and you need to buy more.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/09/2021 15:58

What size were the shoes on his feet when he went in? Presumably nearer a size 7 than a nine. Did you not think then it may have been wrong that they measured two sizes above? Not your fault that they did this of course, but I'd have wanted to have seen the shoes on his feet/have a poke at the toes to double check.

2sizes bigger is a shocker.

girlmom21 · 07/09/2021 15:58

Why are you spending a fortune in returns? You can get free returns for both Next and Schuh. Worst case, return them in store. You get a year to return to Schuh.

Boomkin · 07/09/2021 16:01

No, I thought he had grown! He tried on a 9.5 in Clark’s and it fitted. But they didn’t have the style I wanted so I bought a 9.5 elsewhere, which was huge.

It's a shame there are so few independent children’s shoe shops around these days. They always seemed to be so knowledgeable about all the different brands and how they would fit on your child's foot. We were on holiday near Dumfries this year and I took my daughter to an independent shoe shop there (The Pied Piper). The lady immediately ruled out several brands as my daughter has v narrow feet. Think I might holiday up there again next summer just to go back!

WhateverHappenedToMe · 07/09/2021 16:06

A Clark's fitter told me that their width fittings vart dependent on the style of shoe. I picked up two shoes from the shelf, same size, one EE and one standard; the sole was the same width. I haven't set foot in there since.

NothingEverChangesButTheShoes · 07/09/2021 16:07

My experience of Clarks is that they will 'make' a pair of shoes fit. DC came up as an H but they didn't have any Hs so they went up a size and down to a G.

Helenluvsrob · 07/09/2021 16:09

Sizes ain’t standard between manufacturers
