To think many parents aren't aware that you are now supposed to send child to school even when household member has Covid?

Just that really.
I've brought this up with 3 separate people this week none of whom was aware.

Under new covid rules, if one child (or a parent/household member) has Covid, the other children can be sent to school as long as they aren't symptomatic. Schools are otherwise supposed to treat as unauthorised absence.

YANBU = wow I had no idea, WTF?
YABU = yes everyone knows this

I have covid and rang the school who said send the kids in. Madness.

TreaslakeandBack · 08/09/2021 18:04

For primary surely if both parents have it then kids have to isolate by default as no one to take them to school?
I work in healthcare in full PPE and have been told if there’s a household case I can’t go to work. I can go down to the pub to explain to my patients that I cancelled them because DH has Covid.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 08/09/2021 18:36

Depends I guess: my kids walk by themselves so they could go, but I'm not sending one while the other has Covid.

quitecontrary123 · 08/09/2021 18:47

Yes I am aware and surprised that more people are not aware.

Snappyteabread · 08/09/2021 18:58

@thatllberight

YANBU lots of people are unaware of this. I work in a school in Scotland so have been back a few weeks and we're being absolutely hammered with COVID just now.
Is this also the case on Scotland then? Ie can I send my second child to school if the first is awaiting results of a pcr? I'm away to try to google it now!
Snappyteabread · 08/09/2021 19:17

Have found 2 different sources for Scotland saying if household member has symptoms all members must isolate until that member has a negative PcR result
From Parent Club Scotland "If your child has symptoms, they should not attend school and you should book them a test straightaway. They should remain at home and everyone in the household should self-isolate until they receive their test results. If the test is negative, everyone can stop isolating (and return to school). "
Also Glasgow council return to school letter "Book a test if you or your child develop symptoms
ï‚· Please be vigilant for symptoms of COVID-19. If your child develops any symptoms of COVID-19 they must not attend school. They should stay at home, self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19. Find out more on NHS Inform.
ï‚· All other household members of your child (including yourself) must also stay at home and follow the latest guidance, which can be found on NHS Inform. In the event of a positive result, Test and Protect will contact you to provide tailored advice on what to do."

Bloody hell ds just got a positive ltf after I've sent him in for two days due to school saying to send him in- I feel awful now. There are a lot of kids already off with it in his year so small chance he didn't get it from our household (positive dd) I had done pcr for him before sending in but obviously did it to early

Jellybeanlovehearts · 08/09/2021 20:02

I've started a new job as a TA and I've been told I have to still come into work if one of my children test positive for covid.

Payproblems · 08/09/2021 20:27

Yep that's right jelly!

It's our new one world which is great.. But it seems to be odd that we are relaxing all restrictions and possibly even isolating when positive as we come into our worst seasons of illness? Winter... Being gung ho and causal is great but what happens when you or a loved one can't access any hospital care in winter?

Futurecatmum2 · 08/09/2021 20:41

Good on everyone sensibly keeping their other kids off school if one is Covid positive.

To all those who aren’t… I just fucking despair. It’s obviously fine to knowingly risk passing on a potentially lethal illness as long as your kids’ attendance record isn’t affected, right?

Payproblems · 08/09/2021 20:44

Future what an awful post.

Why not wrote that message to the people in charge like your mp or rail on twitter about it!. What can we do here as ever caught between a rock and a hard place.

Those are the rules though.

@Futurecatmum2 Do you feel the same about teachers and teaching staff who will have positive cases at home and will still be working?

Payproblems · 08/09/2021 20:46

At the very least it would make sense to have people at least wait for the pcr results before making them go into work!

I'm just thankful at least I can travel in privately

Cleebope2 · 08/09/2021 20:51

Different rules in NI. You stay at home until neg pcr. Problem us that pcr testingcentres are booked up a week in advance.some schools are half empty already.

Thirtyrock39 · 09/09/2021 16:43

The other problem with this new system is if another member of the household gets covid who has been our and about as per the guidance how do you know if they've caught it from the household or brought a new infection into the household if this makes sense? So dd positive on ltf Sunday (confirmed pcr Monday) and dh and ds back at school after their negative pcrs, me and other dd working from home company and school policy - now ds awaiting another pcr after testing positive last night on ltf and very poorly today so I'm sure he has it but I'll be allowed back at work next week as my work policy is to still do ten days as per that chart everyone knows but ds could be exposed to a different strain etc??? Eg me and dd could be going back next week after the original ten days but carriers for ds strain
