Honest question. What are you thinking you are going to contract from London water up your nose?

If its come from a hot water tank... There are some very rare bacteria you might have introduced into your body.

But i think you should relax.

Even if you do become poorly, a GP will help.

I have to think 99.9%, you will be fine.

You should apparently always use cooled boiled water for wounds etc, if you can. My DH fell really hard walking home on the ice a few years ago & while I was waiting for the ambulance to arrive I was on the phone to 111, I told them I was trying to swab away the blood from his head to see how bad the damage was/how many times he'd fallen (twice, hard) & they said I should use cool water from the kettle, & clean cloths if possible (not tissue).

Your nasal cavity isn't designed to filter out/destroy bugs in water but you'd have to be pretty unlucky to actually pick one up.

@LegoCaltrops

Probably it will be fine. People stick their fingers up their noses up their noses all the time - under your nails are generally filthy unless you're a frequent user of a nail brush (& you also change or disinfect the brush very often). But, yes, I use a neti pot & you should always use either prepared sterilised water, or boiled & cooled water & the proper salt. And always rinse your pot before use too if you don't use it daily, because dust, flies, etc.
My highly qualified ear and throat specialist explicitly suggested plain table salt. Needs to be properly dissolved and the right quantity of course.

As to dying of tap water, yes there have been cases, but people have also died from eating raw cookie dough. Hopefully doesn't mean we have to stop indulging in the Christmas baking period Wink

London tap water is very safe and does not contain dangerous bacteria!

Your ear nose throat are connected. You are fine.

Willyoujustbequiet · 07/09/2021 01:32

You should never use tap water for nasal rinses. I thought this was common knowledge?
