To think we don’t need to order teaching supplies?

My friend and myself both have 4 year olds starting school tomorrow.

She has ordered from some teaching supply place a reading diary as the schools ones are too plain, teacher stamps saying ‘well done’ ‘reading checked’ ‘super star’ and hundreds of stickers saying ‘Mummy and Daddy say well done’ on them.

I didn’t think this was the normal so I haven’t ordered any supplies.

She is annoyed at me as I said it might be a bit much, aibu

I can understand why she'd find that annoying. Unless she was telling you that you need to do this, I don't see how this translates the title question of 'we don't need to order teaching supplies' - I thought this was going to be about US-style school supply lists with whiteboard board pens and printer paper for classroom use -- actual teaching supplies because budgets are so shite. A reading book, stamps, stickers...that's more motivating/logging supplies.

Whether or not the school will use it, I can see why she might like to use it even just for home use. Maybe her child is really motivated by that sort of thing, maybe the mum just likes stationery or it helps her feel involved. I don't get what you thought the benefit was of telling her "it's a bit much". It may not be your cup of tea, but it's not really out there.

Sorry OP I think you were a little mean. Of course she doesn't need that stuff, but it's a few stickers, what's it matter. You say she bought hundreds like she's completely out of control, but those types of stickers come in packs of hundreds and are £1-2 per pack. Hardly the splurge of the century.
