I’m to get away at half term and I’m finding it hard to find somewhere that will suit us. I have come across a little cottage in Wales that looks nice but it has very stiff cancellation penalties.

As a family we have all just had Covid so I think we are unlikely to get it again in the next 2 months, but the property specifically says it will not refund in the event of travel restrictions changing. AIBU to think that the Welsh government could likely introduce new restrictions? Especially with regard to people coming from England?

Should I risk it and get the nice place for a reasonable fee? Or should we compromise to get a refundable place?

Book whatever you like, it's your money if it goes tits up. No-one here can predict how covid restrictions will change.

Why not just get decent travel insurance?

I think you would be mad to book a place that wouldn’t refund if travel restrictions were reinstated. There are plenty of places that will refund - give them your business.

The last lockdown in Wales the government announced that it was starting with 6 hours notice! I wouldn’t be surprised if they did a two week fire breaker lockdown like last October half term. Surely if you’re not allowed in the country they’d refund you?!

A lot of companies now have Covid cancellation cover in their insurance policies, so if there is a legalised lockdown and you can't travel you will be refunded.
